how come Germany and Switzerland with high wages and costs are doing well? posters on various threads refuse to answer this question while whining about outsourcing.

I'm gonna side with Roark on this. It may not be as easy as it used to be, but I still think the US is the land of opportunity. Anyone could be just an idea away from making huge sums of money

maybe the tipping point to turn america into a socialist/communist or corporatist country has not yet been reached. however it is very close because of US debt and fear of another economic collapse as the government fights free markets and try to regulate every facet of the economy.

  8. This thread got me to thinking about being lied to...

just had a thought...which is usually dangerous only for me...
The War on Drugs will never die, Congress will never "Legalize" drugs.
Reason: Prisons and Law Enforcement and Courts are employers..albeit at low wages, right? But those people are dependent on "da Gummint" for their livelihood.
    Check.
Major banks need the influx of ready cash from money laundering to stay afloat. I've heard, from more than one source, and from a Fed. Law Enforcement source I won't name, that if Drugs were even Decriminalized, major banks would fail cuz they'd run outta money in a couple of weeks. Literally.
    So, the parade goes on.
It's like the Military-Industrial complex being in bed with Congress.

I used to be a Conservative, but I think Libertarian is more applicable for my views.
    Not that it matters.
But being lied to gets old, ya know?

  9. Well, perhaps "what's left of the Good Life", for now.

Those fleeing America, I suspect, are NOT doing so primarily because of taxes. They flee out of fear the US government will bankrupt them and perhaps worse.

Those renouncing US citizenship and leaving are as sensible as Jews fleeing Europe in advance of the Nazis.

  10. If you are thinking about leaving, I'd recommend reading up on the Exit Tax first. Basically they will tax any wealth or assets you may have over $600,000.
