5 minute is excellent timeframe, but I just can't sit there all day any more, been doing it too long, don't have the drive when I was younger. Most my automated systems are geared more to taking 8 ticks and less, I give up bigger profits for lower losing percentages. And the systems that go for much bigger profits I get much smaller winning percentages cause I am unwilling to risk more than 3 ticks in ES for those systems, if it avoids low volatility, then many breakouts give one opportunity to get in and take off, otherwise no entry allowed or runs back into chop and reverse. Yes, if you watch one minute charts, see many 2-3 tick jumps in range, but there is range trading all through the day, but like today I traded longer and I am most happy in low volatility, and HFT actually helps me to a degree, but I often have to put in exits first before getting filled on entry, and yes, been few occasions when exits filled first and comes back to entry, very weird, but HFT does it so often. I prefer to trade far less, very small goal and quit for the day. Spend day concentrating on long term stuff.
