Chill out, dude. Why get so angry on an internet forum? How about this? "Remember citizens of Rome there is no way you can bet against the Roman empire and win! Who is going to replace us, the barbarians? Impossible." -Flavius Eugenius(died 6 September 394), Roman Senator, Emperor Western Roman Empire
America was never an empire, just a cop. It is time though to stop patrolling for everyone else. In any event it is not foreign affairs or the military messing us up, it's all the shit on the inside. If you read history much (it obvious that some of you don't), you will realize that we have been historically isolationist until WWII. FDR had to fight the isolationists to help the UK.
Quote from shortie: "black market in gold trade is coming soon if true" Buy silver. You can purchase it in quantities less than $600 and it is a better value than gold, anyway. If people lose faith in their devalued dollars, they will be buying groceries with old silver coins, not gold. Seasonally, PMs start going up in price within the next month.
In a Los Angeles Times column, Ferguson asks: "America, a Fragile Empire: Here today, gone tomorrow, could the United States fall that fast?" And his answer is clear and emphatic: "For centuries, historians, political theorists, anthropologists and the public have tended to think about the political process in seasonal, cyclical terms ... we discern a rhythm to history. Great powers, like great men, are born, rise, reign and then gradually wane. No matter whether civilizations decline culturally, economically or ecologically, their downfalls are protracted." We are deceiving ourselves, convinced "the challenges that face the United States are often represented as slow-burning ... threats seem very remote." ... continued at link ... What do you think?
Good post! For smaller purchases like food, gas, clothing, etc., I can see where silver may be just what the Dr. ordered.
Quote from Jeff700: "In the mean time USA just passed a new bill. When you buy gold over 600 bucks, government gets to know WHO you are and HOW MUCH you bought exactly." http://www.accountingweb.com/topic/tax/costly-changes-1099-reporting-health-care-bill The new bill being referred to is the gargantuan health care bill pushed through by Nancy Pelosi before anyone could read the fine print. I do not believe that gold is specifically mentioned, just any purchase over $600. Therefore, if you go to a coin shop and buy or sell one ounce of gold, they will be required to file a 1099. If you buy the gold, the government will know that you have it. If you sell the gold and cannot prove your cost basis, you could be subject to a very high punitive tax if enacted in the future. The government won't have to outlaw gold as was done during the great depression, they will just tax it to death. Once again, this supports the purchase of silver instead, which can be bought and sold easily in quantities less than $600.
I can't say, but the poster may have experienced the 70's firsthand. I would rather be back there than where we are today. Desolation is the future.
The white male outnumbers all the rest. Conditions get ugly, who do you think comes out ahead? That is Chomsky's point.
