Yes,Zd, but you tricked him [the old something for nothing-it worked briefly]-once.Dont tell me you used to gamble in pool halls ?? LOL Partial disclosure= i risked a stamp for a [legal]chance to win $7,500 in guns. Not quite as bad as a lottery-a stupid tax on people that cant do math LOL

That stamp was gift to NRA, on post paid envelope= it was a gift+ did not increase my chances of winning.:D:D

    ( testing $1 000,newbie, swing trading strategy )

But i had terrible entries at AMD and F so wen't down as much.

    Hmnn,

does luck really exists, or, it's only timming ?

When they reseached / asked 100 startups to identify the key reason for their success, 38% or more , named timming as it.

They say that if the Lincoln, was president, 10 yrs earlier or 10 yrs later, he woudn't achieved that which he did/tried to.

  3. The " luckiest " people I have ever met I can say were almost always the smartest people.

Life is 90 % what you make of it, 10 % random. Research and Study I posted in first post of thread highlights it well in my opinion. It comes down to how you view things, that's why politicians spin everything positive, bad news or not, it's positively spinned to make it seem better then it is, and according to study and life experiences, I would agree with it

People who believe in Luck, believe in randomness of events that they weren't in control of. Generally, when people think about luck (good or bad), they think of improbable events that have some kind of significance or impact. So winning the lottery is a matter of luck, but losing the lottery is not – winning was very improbable and losing was very probable. Or luck is thought to be a matter of what’s outside of our control, in which case both winning and losing the lottery are due to luck, since neither outcome was within anyone’s control. Their luck might well be, in a very strict psychological sense, entirely of their own making.

Its a trick question, gambling /bets has /have nothing to do with markets ; i dont care how much the WSJ [Wall Street Journal] pretends it does.NOT saying Carl Ichan may or may not make a profit with his casino/stock trades-he may:D:D

I told an old timer REALTOR friend i was thinking about buying a certain lake house on the same lake he lived on.He said ''that house would be a gamble dont do it.'' [I thought to myself business is not gambling] ;so i asked him '' WHY NOT??'' Its been moved; a good way to goof up a home for good. I almost bought it anyway, i have fixed up many homes.

    Good thing i did not, found something much, much better ;
+ it wasnt ''bad luck'', but within 52 or 104 weeks the dam busted-NO lake anymore for years WOW; some use gambling for stupid risk.

I got one ''free'' lake vacation once + they give you $50 to hear a sales pitch.BUT they were so hi pressure they made money i'm sure, overall.LOL But they tend to overprice coffee = food so skipped their food.

I could have easliy lost money on VALE dam braking; but i dont believe in bad luck, or bad liquid stock like VALE or GE, if they dont go up but a little. BUT shorts covered so much/made so much on GE; if the sellers sell out, trash flies UP LOL

    Merriam-webster to the rescue:
    luck
    noun
    \ ˈlək \
    Definition of luck
    (Entry 1 of 2)

1a : a force that brings good fortune or adversity Luck was a big factor in the outcome.
b : the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual The loser muttered something about bad luck.
2 : favoring chance also : success had great luck growing orchids
    luck

    verb
    lucked; lucking; lucks
Definition of luck (Entry 2 of 2)

    intransitive verb

1 : to prosper or succeed especially through chance or good fortune —usually used with out the hero lucks out and is able to escape

Firstly, this test was really testing reading comprehension. It should be no surprise that how something is framed in text, greatly affects people's comprehension and interpretations. Ie. random text will be incomprehensible. Encrypted text may be unintelligible ornot. While short and clear text may provide the clearest communication. See also: anchoring, demagogue and persuasion.

Secondly, the word "luck" itself has no clear-cut scientific or objective definition. Although, generally understood as unexpected and unlikely good fortune befalling someone, either through pure chance, tough efforts or against overwhelming odds.

"Luck" is generally underestimated in two big ways:
    1. Those who may be regarded favoured of good luck, generally underestimate their own good fortunes, missing out on gratefulness of life. Instead envying those with even more than themselves.
    2. Reports of luck are generally biased by stories of big fortune, while efforts, costs, risks and damages goes largely unreported, ignored and unappreciated. Thus feeding myths about how easy it is for the majority to "beat the odds", and the real costs behind believing any story and dreams being upheld as unquestioned ideology.
