To answer the threads question: YES! This country needs to revert back to the principles it was originally founded on.
In some ways McCain is a paradox. He has been strongly pro-life, is one of the few Senators willing to stand up against pork and of course he has credibility on military matters. But he was against the tax cuts, he authored the horrible campaign finance bill, was part of the gang of 14 who let the Democrats get away with unfair filibusters of judges, and now has pushed an illegal immigrant amnesty proposal that does little to solve the problem and much to make it worse.
Within the party there are sub- groups. There are social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, libertarians, centrists, Neo- Con hawks, etc. There is no other party for conservatives to go to; it would have been pointless to vote for Badnarik. None of the sub- groups will ever be totally happy just as there will always be dissension in the other party.
don't forget the "paleocons" i believe National Review coined that term, but could be wrong. they use it often enuf
National Review have turned into a pack of neocons. They're no help anymore. Liberalism's won; American conservatism is pretty much dead. Good luck.
American conservatism has self-destructed but liberalism has not won. 60 million american neocons/Bush voters have egg all over their face, yet they are going to enthusiastically vote for the next lying, tax-cut promising, opponents (including war heros) smearing piece of shit who they'd rather have a beer with. Then they are going to keep complaining that they can't get an honest government. Don't worry spect8or, as long as there are gullible, ignorant sheeple, conservatism will be alive and kicking. Let alone the fact that American liberalism is to the right of European conservatism to begin with.
What do conservatives lie about? Not conservative politicians, conservatives themselves. It's an amazing charge really, given that liberalism (in its current guise) is an outfit that only survives by distortion and manipulating masses. What has that to do with anything?
The only thing wrong with he republican party is Bush. Bush was a Liberal from a liberal Republican eastern elite, New World Order, in bed with the saudi family. His Dad raised taxes, hated Reagan, and snuck liberal judges on the court. Our leader sucks because he pulled a fast one on me, just like John Kerry was trying to do. Liberals shifting to the center to get theselves elected.
Yes, but in fairness the Senate Republicans have not exactly covered themselves in glory. They have about five liberal RINO(republicans in name only) who constantly sabotage anything their leaders try to do and another group of five or six, eg McCain, Graham and Hagel, who are not exactly team players either. Add in timid leadership from Frist and a lack of leadership from the White House and you have a mess. Rather than confront the Democrats and liberals in his own party, Bush has tried to coopt them, and the results have been a vast expansion of the government. Now we have an army of screeners at the airport to hassle us, even though they won't focus on the most likely terrorism suspects, and the government ignores its responsibility to protect our borders. We have learned that the FBI brass was willfully negligent in allowing 9/11, but no shakeups there. The CIA was not only incompetent but borderline disloyal in its leak war against Bush, but he left Tenet in charge for 5 years. Why should conservatives continue to support a party that is so incompetent?
Bullshit. Liberals don't give tax cuts to the richest americans and welfare to the biggest and most profitable corporations. Liberals don't invade foreign countries on false pretenses, liberals don't support outsourcing of american jobs, free trade and free market, liberals don't agressively oppose Universal Healthcare, minimum wage increases and a woman's right to choose. Bush is an uber-conservative who has proved that conservative ideas don't work in real life.
