Another important swing State,Ohio One of the biggest gifts Obama got in 2010 was states like FL and Ohio electing republican governors http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/02/ohioans-would-re-do-gubernatorial-election.html February 07, 2012 Ohioans would re-do gubernatorial election Raleigh, N.C. â After a little over a year on the job, Ohioans appear to be having voterâs remorse over the election of Republican John Kasich as Governor. Kasich holds a 53% job disapproval rating compared to just 33% approval. Independents disapprove by a 38-47 rate, just 9% of Democrats approve compared to 80% who do not, and 25% of Republicans disapprove while only 58% approve. When asked who they would vote for if they could do last fallâs election for Governor over again, Ted Strickland leads by 20 points, with 56% of voters say they would vote for him and just 36% for Kasich. House Speaker John Boehner fares even worse, with only 28% of voters approving of his job performance and 54% disapproving. âOhio voters sent John Kasich a strong message in November by repealing Senate Bill 5 and his numbers havenât improved any since then,â said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. âHe remains one of the least popular Governors in the country and that could help Democratic prospects in the state this fall.â
"Expansionary austerity", failing in a European country near you, failing in a US state near you. [To be fair, these govs have little choice.]
True, but they show people what they can expect from the GOP.Many are realizing they would rather have Obama
Its hard to make sense of the idea that you need to spend to get out of a crisis caused by overspending. Plus when you have people like Krugman saying it the reaction from many is deep distrust and skepticism. Take Greece for example. They borrowed and borrowed and then a reduction in economic activity caused tax revenue to decrease and the government started having trouble servicing their debt. More financing was arranged in order to restructure their debt, stretch it out so that payments could be made in the short term. Those institutions that are providing credit to restructure the original debt want the Greek government to reduce its spending so that they can be assured that the government can make its debt payments. Krugman says that the Greek government should increase its spending with the twisted logic that increased government spending will stimulate economic activity that increases tax revenue. Now if those banks that are financing the debt restructuring thought that increasing government spending would lead to increased tax revenue wouldn't they ask for that instead of asking for reduction of government spending? Certainly these banks would ask for whatever they thought would increase the likelihood of them receiving their payments from the government. So why don't the banks ask the Greek government to spend more? Because they know from history that increased government spending does *not* lead to increased tax revenues.
Well, technically I can't see his posts. I've freely admitted in the past that Gabs is not an idiot imho and probably has something interesting to say on this but I just find him too pedantic and downright mean to want to read his posts anymore. I also know that an economic discussion with sufficient detail and complexity pretty well precludes there being any response from AK and I spent enough time with him last night on far lower rungs of the intellectual ladder. Ricter will often respond in detail because he opposes austerity during a financial crisis and knows about Roosevelt's response to the great depression etc. Might be interesting. (shrug).
Gabfly/Brass is an insane narcissist so there really is no way to have an intelligent conversation with him, because he comes into every conversation thinking he knows everything, when realistically his knowledge is very limited, especially when it comes to economics, that is why i had to put him on ignore, he simply doesnt possess a single redeeming quality. In all my years on this site, He is the only person who was ever repulsive enough to warrant the use of the ignore feature. On the other hand, I have always enjoyed talking with Ricter, because he will always have a debate where each side can simply present facts, and you can simply argue about the numbers, with no insults. Admittedly i am quick to throw the insults with most people but not with Ricter, because he always treats me with the same level of respect.
I've finally put AK47 on ignore. He no longer offers anything intelligent, just continues to spam the same thing over and over like some deranged liberal parrot. This thread is about energy prices and he saw fit to spam the thread with his worthless polling commentary, and the only way I can get rid of it is to put it on ignore. AK, I'll take you off ignore when there are but two candidates for President. Until then, you are incapable of any other discussion besides worthless cut-and-paste polls, and blame Bush topics.
Gas went up $.03 over night, and is up 12 cents from last week. 27 cents from last month. http://fuelgaugereport.aaa.com/?redirectto=http://fuelgaugereport.opisnet.com/index.asp
