  3. Apologies but I didn't wade through the entire thread. The OP wanted to know if it was possible to make $5k a month trading two lots.

While it's certainly possible, provided you hit a great market, but it practice it will rarely happen.

A two lot in the ES is $100 a point. If your average win is 2 points or $200, you'll need 25 of them. Average a more realistic $100 per win, and suddenly you need 50. But you need 50 from breakeven, which means you need those 50 on top of covering your losers.

To see how utterly unrealistic this is, look at it from a return on equity. You need maybe $6k in margin to trade two lots of ES. Say you are conservative and don't go beyond a prudent three times margin, so your account needs $18k. Let's round it to $20k ( I realize that this seems absurdly conservative for some of you. The rest of us will still be here next year however.)

$5k a month on a $20k account is 25% per month or 300% annualized. Possible for short periods? Yes, but show me any fund that has ever done this regularly.

  5. You may want to read this thread: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/challenge.323874/
Multiple people show that they can achieve 5 k per month, even more.

    Any possibility at all?

    4 contacts/4 tics each/3 trading days /+$600
    5 contracts/4 tics each/2 trading days/+500
    6 contracts/4 tics each/2 trading days/+600
    7 contracts/4 tics each/1 trading day/+350
    8 contracts/ 4. 2. /+800
    10. 4. 2. /+1000
    12. 4. 1. /+600
    13. 4. 1. /+650
    14. 4. 1. /700
Start with $2500.00. $199.00/month exch fees $258. 15 days as above maxing leverage 98 contracts in a row. In as little as 15 trades. First day 4. Day 15. 14 contracts. Plus $5500 with 5 days off. This is the fastest way possible.
I will not respond. If you are able to understand you would have said it. Trailing stop hurt this crowd-not Southall. Always a 1 tic solution away and 2500 and 15 tradings days. SHOW ME THE MONEY Screenshot_20180821-030513.png

Those achieving such with real money are in fact veteran traders. Others doing such via simulator...they are not newbies out of the gate.

Usually the OP of this thread that ask questions (is it possible ?) are referring to "newbies" doing such out of the gate or traders with very little experience and with real money (not simulator).

The other issue is that threads like this are usually in reference to month to month on a consistent basis...not a one time deal. You'll really understand if a thread like the challenge thread occurred over one year instead of one week because in one year you'll see different types of market conditions in comparison to one week.

One particular issue not discussed is the time & energy to dedicate yourself to posting your results each trading day for every month in a one year period. Reason why threads like the challenge thread are "short durations"...similar to the same reasons why the typical trading competitions are "short durations" and not long durations.

  9. These are some very valid considerations. I agree with you.
What triggered me to write my previous message, pointing at the "Challenge" thread, was the rather strong sentence "... but in practice it will rarely happen." That sounded too negative in my view.

Just closed out. $1400 on one lot! Overnight. Very little stress. I think swing trading would need a lot more patience(especially if it's not trending). But overnight is fine especially if you got in at a good price and just ride the trend. Of course, if you got in and it goes down then get out so you can get better sleep.
