Very good point. Add the fact that many politicians sit on the board of many corporations and you have a perfect recipe for a Corporatist society. Corporations effectively buy the government by funding the election campaigns and then giving them positions on the board of directors so they can pursue their agendas with little government interference. This has happened throughout history and now it is happening in the good old US of A. This doesn't mean there isn't opportunity, however. As long as you're still allowed to hang out a shingle and chart your own course opportunity exists.
Corporatism, I'm writing my grad thesis on it. There isn't much, if any in depth data and research on it. It is exactly what is going on though. I mean companies were gonna go broke, and the government said, "No.". It's basically socialism for big business and elites instead of the people. I think it is kept out of the public discourse, because if both dem and repub backed tv are arguing the wrong point, it doesn't matter who wins the public's favor. Our economy is so highly leveraged that any change in "confidence" could set off another crisis. I hope that we can inflate away our debts without killing the dollar or another crisis hits. I don't think so though. Anyway, corporatism is bad.
Hydroblunt is correct and your book is wrong. Capitalists naturally crave a monopoly and the state is the only sure way of getting one. In Buffett language, no "moat" is more effective than state sponsorship. "Free market capitalism" is the capitalist ideology of those looking to rise. Corporatism or state-capitalism is the ideology of those who have made it. Look at buffet or the guy in mexico. They work WITH the state and secure legal advantages. the "free market" is for the little people.

Thank you, and exactly! What these blokes are calling corporatism is simply a form of capitalism, for which see any dictionary. These folks don't know what capitalism is and that it is not merely capital and the means of production in private hands. They usually confuse it with free competition, which is something else entirely.
Capitalism was not created via a book or theory. It emerged as a real life practice & methodology in Europe. Corporations lobby the government for purely capitalist reasons.
