Is intelligence important for trading?

  1. one thing that i do like about M-T is that you get three sets of experienced eyeballs scanning for good setups at all times. (four counting your own). this has to be a great advantage.

didn't you say too that you take tight .25 stops on all your trades?

  4. Yes, no more than .25 and sometimes less. Some of the traders don't like to do this because you can get stopped out on an otherwise good trade. However, this is just a part of my risk control.

  5. It depends on the kind of intelligence :) The problem of scientists in general is they have a background that prevent them to be open minded. I know it as I was stuborn myself at the beginning as I was an ingenier with a background in statiscal process control and I did believe in so called random walk or unpredictability of market and refuses the reality of technical analysis as I couldn't found any rationality at that time. I used to say that 2 kind of people have much more chance relatively to other kind: it's people from the army and ... mystics people.
The first one because they are disciplined and the second one because they benefits from a placebo effect that make them to believe they are in the center of the money energy flux of the universe :) so they let the market come, cut their losses shortly and let it run for profits.

As for scientist or ingenier, the other problem is, although they can make sophisticated calculation, they don't much more understand the concept. I really mean it as for own experience in quality control process, I have much problem to explain variation concept to other ingeneers: they don't understand why it's much better not to regulate a process all the time and only certain time as in trading people doesn't understand the overtrading effect. So a good skill at calculation doesn't do a trader. But when a scientist has a great flexibility in mind, he can do better than the average thanks to its added potential.

  8. this is really BS. scientists and engineers require something called proof or reasonable evidence. have you heard of it? they are not closed minded or stupid as you suggest, but they are rational. a little proof of your claims might help.
