Is greed, for a lack of a better word, good?

  1. In the 1920s, they were saying greed was good. Then in the 1930s they got back to saying it wasnt good. The 1940s-1950s they got back to greed. In the 1960s-1970s the anti-greed movement came in again. In the 1980s-early 00s we got back to greed. Now they are saying its no good.

So I ask, is greed good?

    Of course it is good.
    Greed is right. Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms-greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -
...has marked the upward surge of mankind.

All these words are the very truth.

  3. Making money... even lots of it... and desiring to keep it isn't greed.... it's simply working for your own self interest. That's VERY good. It's the foundation of success and wealth in the US. It's capitalism.

It becomes greed when your methods and style are illegal or abusive to others.

Any feeling, emotion or vice that controls you is obviously not good......

  5. Charities are greedy, "we need more money", they never have enough money.

The poor need more of "something for nothing".

    ------------------------

Is our tax code written to motivate people to do something with their money or than just park it?

Everything looks like greed on the surface.

Greed is the main driver of criminals and selfish people
greed is responsible for the uncaring society that the few do well and the many suffer

greed leads to boom and then bust

Take one look at those greedy for food as they wobble off down the street. They aren't doing themselves any favours stuffing in the Big Macs and cream buns. They are shortening their own lives and mising out on so much - money greed is much the same.

Power and money greed of the few leads to resentment and often revolution. I bet Gaddafi is wishing he had spread the Libyan oil money around a bit more.

Much of the resentment against the Jews in Europe was due to the general view that they had made abnormally big gains from money-lending, pawn shops etc. Their supposed greed was their downfall as resentment turned into persecution.

  7. What's up with that program to provide free cell phones for the poor because they spend the rent money on cell phone bills.

Is this more than one needs or deserves?

  8. Greed is not to be confused with self interest.

Greed is a sickeness. It clouds your mind and does not allow you to reason.

Is like a drug addict who would kill his mother or sons to have his desire satisfied.

When you are greedy you even work against yourself without knowing it.

  9. +1. Greed, by definition, is bad. This is a discussion about semantics.
