prop shops where you put in your own capital allowed you to leverage intra-day at much greater ratio than 4:1, your capital is the first tranche against any losses you may incur in your own trading. furthermore if there is poor risk control by the prop shop, you may incur losses to your capital resulting from your fellow traders blowing up.
