Is everyone in a fullblown panic because of coronavirus?

  1. Coronaviruses can be unpredictable, said Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. While some patients never infect anyone else, people who are “superspreaders” can infect dozens of others.

At Seoul’s Samsung Medical Center in 2015, a single emergency room patient infected 82 people – including patients, visitors and staff – with a coronavirus called MERS, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. The hospital partly shut down to control the virus.

“This is one of the finest medical centers in the world, on par with the Cleveland Clinic, and they were brought to their knees,” Osterholm said.

It is not about deaths..it is about the effect the virus has on working populations. Moves in the stock market are based on sentiment but clearly the facts show the effect of the virus on travel to Hong Kong and Macau so that is real even if for a short period of time.

  5. Actual transmission rates and lethality of this virus are too early to be determined. In addition, this virus may have a period of time a patient is infectious before showing symptoms. Looking at a timeline of the virus, as shown in wikipedia.org, note the number of deaths versus those who officially recovered: 80 deaths; 51 recovered. However, I am assuming a vast number of actual patient recoveries have not been bothered to be reported. There are indications the actual number of infected are greater than officially recognized as well as affecting more locations.

I also am noting how close this virus is on the above chart to the Spanish Flu. Global travel and higher population densities versus better understanding of viruses may determine the eventual effect of this virus on the global population and economy.

Again, it is too early to draw any reasonable conclusions with this virus. However, the prudent will stock up on long term provisions as a store shelf clearing panic will leave the unprepared with few options with food related riots likely following 3 days later.

I received a call from my scientist friend today and he is concerned. He said he has relevant contacts in the the medical field and will let me know what they say. I will relay any additional information here.

  8. Attached below is a letter to the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine Online that shows an example of asymptomatic transmission. I wonder if this implies that some people have various degrees of immunity to this disease from prior exposure from other similar Coronaviruses. However, doctors said the viral load of the patient in question was high, showing the Coronavirus was able to amplify. The other implication of this information is how is it all at possible to contain this “Novel Coronavirus”? Another question is said patient truly out of the woods yet?

Undefined risk with this disease implies opportunities to the short side. Diehard bulls risk getting skewered on this one.

I'm sorted then. Trump safe also sadly, his sniffing will be back for the debates. While I'm not getting coronavirus I'll also direct an epic movie. Maybe porn, maybe just scataphagos ranting at wildchild for four hours, about Wales and Indowars, whatever it will seem amazing. ;)
