Yeah im not much of a fan either, too many games to watch, besides what i see on the highlight reel on sportscentre at the end of the night i couldnt care less. 2 more weeks until the start of the best 21 weeks of the year, that will also coincide with the time frame where the browns permanently lose any chance at a .500 record for the season, actually you guys play cincinatti on the 11th, so you might have a chance to say you were undefeated for atleast a week this season, Im sure the Browns will be talking superbowl already if they win in week 1. Then in week 2 you got indy and reality will set in, its all down hill for Browns fans from there.
Damn, you sure know us Browns fans. lol At least JThomas signed a long-term deal. Said he likes what H&H are doing, so that's a good sign.
I know the feeling because i grew up in Toronto and im also a Hockey fan, the Leafs are like the Browns of the NHL, they have a religious following, and they always seem to make horrendous trades and moves in the draft. Last year the Leafs started out 7-0, and there was already talk about the Leafs winning the cup when they finished second last the previous year. Then they wound up finishing 4th or 5th last out of 32 teams. Atleast you can take a joke about it, when i joke about how bad the leafs are with some fellow leafs fans, its like i just commited heresy.
LOL It's going to take some time and the biggest difference for him is his mindset. You can just feel it from him. Can't say the same being drafted and a backup. I would rank him over TEABOW and all these other QBs from top college football teams for many reasons. He will go through his learning curve and will experience a troughs in which it should make him better. Right now though, his confidence is at an all time high.
Which is why I explicitly stated he had at least 5 years in the LEAGUE, not necessarily with one team. Hell, Rex Grossman is still getting a good shot of starting with the Redskins and he is a woefully undersized, inconsistent QB. The point is, the higher the draft pick, the bigger the QB and the more athletic he is, not to even mention all of the "intangibles" that GM's love, gives a guy a much longer leash then some late round guy who might be a better and more prototypical pocket passer. Think Kurt Warner or something similar.
I think you were spot on with the "5 years to make it" saying. After throwing for 50% this year, he will have another year to make it, and thats just with Carolina, then if he fails a coach will be fired, and he will be traded to someone else willing to take a shot for a couple years, then he will have 2-3 more years of just moving around and getting random chances with teams looking to get any QB if their starter is dogshit, or they literally have no backup. You were spot on with his time frame. Hell Brady Quinn is still getting a shot for a number 2 spot, and he was one of the most prolific busts at QB in recent memory.
Newton looks more humble than i originally thought. Probably a good sign for panthers fans. Newton, the overall No. 1 pick by Carolina (1-2), went into the game with a 65.2 quarterback rating after two games. He rushed for 41 yards in the first half, including a 16-yard scramble for a touchdown. He played the first three series of the third quarter before giving way to second-year quarterback Jimmy Clausen and finished six of 19 for 75 yards and a 44.8 rating. "It's unacceptable on my part," he said. "I've got to make the proper reads and get in a comfort zone. Third-and-long is not a situation we want to be in. A checkdown is not a bad thing." http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/20110...s/recap/full-story?module=HP11_headline_stack
Odds are stacked against him. There are too many great athletes on defense. If a QB can't spread the field like Manning, Brees, Brady, Rogers, or that douche bag in San Diego, defensive cooridinators will will take advantage and his career will be average at best. The only cuurent exception is that other douche bag from pittsburgh, but he has his momemts where he looks like a top 5 QB but mostly he's a tough SOB who just won't go down and he's playing for a team that's perfect for him. 5 years in the league unless his passing game improves, but man it's not easy. Otherwise the other thousand or so star college. QBs wouldn't have bombed in the NFL.
