Is Amazon a Fad?

  1. What do you do then? Do you invest specifically in options and futures?

Do you think that you think you can get better returns with them as opposed to investing larger sums of money in stocks?

Hey OP.........AMZN was up $9 for the day and it is up $40 ($959) in after hours trading after they released their earnings report. Pretty good stuff for a faddish stock.

  3. Amazon is a good disruptor.
Vanguard changed things in the brokerage industry but I would not call them a disruptor.

I consider disruptors to be something that changes the way we live.....like the internet, amazon, electric cars (everyone talked about electric cars but Tesla made the concept happen).

Online banking, social media, 3D printing.....the Cowboys making the playoffs.......things you would never expect to happen.

The financial community's term for the low cost investing trend is called "Vanguarding>.

  5. announced lower forward guidance. You have to be delusional to buy tomorrow or now after such a bad earnings guidance

I am still waiting for the time when Amazon can sell books profitably...

    ---------------------------------------

"Shares of Amazon have come a long way since the company's 1997 initial public offering. Since then, Amazon shares have sky rocketed 48,197% from their May 15, 1997 debut of $18 a share."

And if we count from 2001 October when one could have picked up shares under $6, the return would be a gazillion.

  9. They don't sell books at a profit ?
Or do they sell them profitably and lose money on the shipping?
I gotta admit I buy 90 percent of my books from them. They are the cheapest around.

No the IPO price adjusted for stock splits prior to year 2000 seems to be $1.5

    AMZ split history:

    Date Ratio
    06/02/1998 2 for 1
    01/05/1999 3 for 1
    09/02/1999 2 for 1
