Buffett and Soros are 87. Icahn is 82. I'm sure there's hundreds of others that aren't so widely known. How old is T. Boone Pickens? The key to long life, or at least one key, is to constantly challenge one's brain. I know of no other endeavor that that can do that so well. Let me know when you figure it out Illini.
My statement was in reference to don't think employers are your friend and you have any responsibility to make them happy. Employer thinks the exact same way with employees. You example was someone who wasn't being careful. Don't trade at work is good advice. Not that it's the moral thing to do like you implied, but you risk getting fired. The guy in your example sound like he wasn't prepared for the scenario. If you want to trade at work then be ready to face the consequences. Or better yet, know that you are going to get fired and either get very good at trading very fast or look for another job on the side. Hehe.
Actually, I made no "friendship" connection between employee/employer but you did respond to me instead of responding to someone else. Too many traders try in error to trade from their other job. I can understand someone that's a swing trader or long term postion trader or holds investments...then checking in on their positions during lunch time at work. Yet, day traders should not be opening/closing/managing their trade positions from another job...its a costly to the job and can result in people losing their jobs. Its costing businesses about 400 billion dollars per year but I'm not putting the blame on day trading specifically. Stealing time from the job via doing other things instead of doing the job a person was hired to do. Here's another example. Last year I wasn't allowed to drive my car because of a medical restriction for an entire year. To get around, I took the bus (or rode my bike for someth. One particular bus started the route a few blocks away from my condo...I got on the bus and expected the bus to leave on time as designated by the bus schedule. It just sat there about 10 minutes past its route departure time. The driver was talking on his cell phone with someone about marital problems...a very heated argument. Anyways, he left the stop 10 minutes late...late for all the other stops after that first stop. I missed my connecting bus by 5 minutes (bus came once per hour) and that made me late for my hospital appointment...I had to wait an additional 4 hours at the hospital for a open spot on the schedule for my MRI and CT scans. My point, it doesn't matter if that bus driver was arguing on the cell phone instead of doing his bus route or sitting there on a laptop doing some day trades...don't steal time from the job. It can cause you to lose your job or cause problems for other people (like me). The bus driver was reprimanded and taken off the route after many complaints (including my own complaint)...bus driver given (transferred) a less desirable route. wrbtrader
I do appreciate your encouragement. I am still a young pup compared to those guys. I will give you a PM if 2018 is my first profitable year. Actually Soros will be 89 in August and he has announced that he will be investing one Billion in Cryptos so even he is still learning and adapting. Personally I wish he would stay out of Cryptos. That is all we need, one more whale to push the market around.
You cant take big risks when old. A 30 year old newbie trader can lose most/all life savings and still make it back. A 60 year old trader starting out? No you definitely don't want to be broke at 60. So if you are old and you want to start trading you have to be very careful with the risks you take but that means you are not going to learn via 'the school of hard knocks' which is one of best known ways to learn this business.
The Japanese are a great people...they produced tempura shrimp, The Karate Kid (Mr Miyagi is bad-ass, Daniel San was a p*ssy, still is), Nintendo and Playstation, and Japanese traders CIS and BNF, Toyota is a better car company than Ford, Wagyu and Kobe beef, Seiko and Citizen watches, bonsai plants/trees, beautiful country and culture. -- they also make really high-end, life-like sex dolls. Japanese men are so socially awkward with women and relationships.
Why not start a new thread in the Journals section. Begin by addressing the situation you are not yet profitable and would encourage suggestions. Then place your trades live (as close as) into the journal. Spell out your thoughts and logic on why such and such trade was placed. It will do two things, (a) bring in suggestions and (b) make you see things never seen before. I run a short journal every now and again, it is quite theraputic. I have one running now "....machine gun...."
