Each trader chooses his own path. Some trade alone and do not communicate with anyone, while others have many like-minded people with whom they can communicate, share their thoughts and ideas, and also gain invaluable experience when communicating with more experienced traders.
Is it lonely? 100% Do I regret the path I chose, not one bit. I can socialise outside of the times I trade. I'm a member of a few active communities but I rarely look at them during trading hours. For me, being able to wake up in the morning, open the charts and be captivated all day long is what drives me. I'll be doing this till they put me in the ground, and loving every minute of it
I doubt this statement is relevant for forex from a learning perspective. For example, communicating with more experienced traders helped me a lot when I was creating my trading strategy. They helped me understand the nuances and subtleties of technical analysis and create and improve my strategy faster.
It depends upon the environment you work in and if it's important for you to interact with others while trading. There is plenty of time after market close and on weekends to socialize. If you are a good trader it is a bit tough to find people outside of the industry to talk to about your work but that is true of many professions.
