Even SNOPES has been caught lying to protect their Führer. It's gotten so a thinking person can hardly believe anything written on the internet anymore.
Most every young man that signs up in time of war think they're doing do to fight for freedom and their country. Last time that was true was WWII. It's a difficult thing to realize you've been played for a fool, that your patriotism has made you a chump. That reality does not change the horror of war, and in some ways it magnifies it.
