Iran's currency, the Rial, is collapsing due to economic mismanagement and in part oil sanctions that are starting to bite.
    So how bad is it?
Journalist Reza Asadi posted this chart showing how many Rial it takes to buy a dollar over the last 70 days.
You can see the number's gone bananas.
Note that on the Persian Calendar it's the year 1391.

Eyewitnesses told the BBC that scores of people gathered outside the central bank, calling for the governor to stand down, chanting anti-government slogans.

It's obvious that the spiraling cost of things is having a major destabilizing effect.

    The BBC reports on protests:

Riot police in Iran have clashed with protesters in the capital over sharp falls in the currency, the rial.

Tear gas was used to disperse the demonstrators, some of whom were setting fire to tyres and rubbish bins. There were many arrests, reports say.

Well, no wonder they are so backwards. Europe was pretty backwards in 1391, too. :D

  3. Maybe no more military strike needed...their currency collapsed 40% in 1 week...

    Reuters – 30 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held out the possibility on Wednesday that sanctions on Iran could be eased quickly if Tehran worked with major powers to address questions about its nuclear program.

Speaking to reporters about protests in Iran triggered by the collapse of the Iranian currency, which has lost 40 percent of its value against the dollar in a week, Clinton blamed the Iranian government - rather than Western sanctions - for the financial troubles.

  4. No mention of who the rioters are? Are they money changers who made a wrong bet? If yes I would understand why Joe W did not mention it. Is Joe Weisenthal a zionist? Any effects of zionism in the story?

  5. It's probably about time to send the nukes in.

They are getting crazy there, and we need to defend Israel from Iran.

  6. I speak jive, allow me to interpret...
