Iran Is Ready to Talk About Nuclear Program

This is convenient timing. The New York Times' Helene Cooper and Michael Landry report Iran has finally agreed to sit down for the first time for one-on-one negotiations with the U.S. over their controversial nuclear program.

The catch: they won't sit down until after the election is over. They don't want to start negotiating with a President who may or may not be there in two weeks. But the agreement is a big get for Obama, the culmination of four years of "secret, intense" negotiations between the two sides.

There are a bunch of other logistics to work out, including getting final, official say from Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Top officials have agreed to the talks but Ali Khamenei hasn't signed off. Israel was pretty skeptical Iran would be productive when they spoke to the Times. Israel's spent much of the last year drawing red lines for Iran's controversial nuclear program. They don't want Iran to go over a certain enrichment level without incurring the wrath of an attack. Skeptics are already saying the agreement is an effort from Iran to ease international tension on them. Others are saying they're bending to the sanctions that are tanking their economy.

Apparently they haven't seen all of your skewed polls. Best be posting some more.

  3. Obamas crippling sanctions are killing Iran's oil exports and economy and they are now willing to have nuclear talks that might prevent war, just before a foreign policy debate and 2 weeks before the election .Great news for team Obama

  4. Anybody not having graduated the 4th grade might side with you.

  5. Talk is cheap. Think about it. Iran is willing to talk. Big fucking deal. They are getting thier nuts squeezed with sanctions and thier currency has plummeted by 50% in a month. They see a maniacal Adelson shoveling his profits at Rombot who is talking like a hawk on Iran and they are probing possibilities among both candidates on the eve of an election. If they are talking to Obama, you can bet they have a back channel to Romney that goes like this: "Mitt, if we thumb our nose blatantly at Obama while you are accusing him of being a pussy with us, what's in it for us if you get elected?"

They would prefer a Republican President since the last one handed Iraq to them on a silver platter.

Lucrum, why aren't you in the Middle East flying bombing runs over Iran? Sheldon will underwrite the missions.

  10. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said he had a one-on-one meeting with Obama, in which President Obama told him that he was still a Muslim.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Abul Gheit said on the “Round Table Show” that he had had a one on one meeting with Obama who swore to him that he was a Moslem.

He asked that the Moslem world show patience. Obama promised that once he overcame some domestic American problems (Healthcare), that he would show the Moslem world what he would do with Israel.”
