Those little slips of paper you get from the bank and use to buy things by filling out a payee and amount plus your signature. How do you spell the name of this item?

 

I will spell it cheque when trying to impress the cashier girl, but will otherwise spell it check. I prefer check... the "que" has too much of the French in it.
