Good buy back..now I want to sell Jan 27s but I can't..because they don't exist. There is no longer 27 and 28s for msft but 27.50s. I don't like this at all..
Been getting lazy on this journal because no one really responds or even reads this I believe. last week I sold: 21 Jan 105 EQIX C @2.75 21 Jan 26 MSFT C @ 0.60 I'm trying to short ZSL but my brokerage does not have any inventory at the moment which is really quite a let down
I read it, keep doing what you're doing. I do a similar approach, not too many people here doing stuff 1 month out or more.
I'm just going to post my year end review real quick with the market having 5 minutes left, as I am basically one foot out the door. Account value ended year @ 26,535 This represents a 32% increase in the account on the year, even though I started sometime around May. I will only use this year loosely as I don't have exact dates, although the account did start at 20,000. Next year will be a complete record year.
Bought back 21 Jan MSFT 26 C @ .90 I think MSFT is starting the breakout that I've been waiting 5 months for, which is why I performed a rare buyback today. I also added to my MSFT position
I have a question. You have made good money, but it seems like you make more than the SPX on rallies and lose about the same on selloffs. This is surprizing because you are selling puts where your delta is < 1 on the upside and > 1 on the downside (given the leverage). How is this? Is it primarily the stocks you have selected (which have been in favor recently)? Or is it through shrewd handling of your short calls (which would have been extremely tough in this market).
Hello and thank you for your comment. This is a great question in which I should have an answer for, but do not. I started this method basically at a whim without any paper trades or anything. It made perfect sense in my head and I will continue to do it until something drastic happens (my fingers got very itchy in August). Here's the backdrop for my method: 1. Pick time tested stocks with dividends 2. Sell calls on them With that said I do not have a concrete method, for instance I don't sell 2 strikes otm, 1 strike otm or right atm every month. I look at the market, what I think it's going to do, and set my strike accordingly. Perhaps I've had some lucky calls like calling the bottom in august and selling my next calls several strikes out.
Yes, and they would be no where near as good, it would be about a ~5% gain had I just held the underlying vs. my 32%
