Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

Discussion in 'ETFs' started by KCalhoun, Jan 3, 2022.

  1. I really like your style.

Does anyone know of an inverse Insurance ETF? For all the underwriters of life insurance?

Closest I could find is FAZ.

An alternative could be ETFs that are negatively correlated with an insurance ETF. The attached KIE_correlations.csv is a semicolon-separated file with three-year (as of the close on April 8), daily return QuantDare correlations between SPDR S&P Insurance ETF (KIE) and 549 other ETFs (sorted by correlation).

The lowest-correlated ETF in the list is ProShares VIX Mid-Term Futures ETF (VIXM) at -0.677706930459539. But the highest-correlated ETF in the list is First Trust Financials AlphaDEX Fund (FXO) at 0.958161840822593, so your choice of Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) could be better (but with a higher expense ratio).

Why was the VIX lower most of the day when SPY was down almost all day? Only when the selling intensified did the VIX rise.

Looks like there may be a short-term bottom coming soon. If you thought there was going to more volatility wouldn't you be buying puts yet the VIX acts like it doesn't want to go higher. Of course I'm still long SARK, FNGD, SOXS & UVIX, but something to consider.

Good points, right re VIX, it's looking like support near 20, resistance near low 30s. It's been wonky lately, eg why didn't it rise as usual when SPY drops, can't tell why.

I'm just in 700 UVXY here, since long weekend any negative headline can cause a volatility spike to profit from.

Why just watch the futures market Sunday evening when you can be trading it?

Watching a moving market without being able to do anything is called wasting time.

Having a position in a moving market and not being able to do anything is called stupidity.

True, but I'm a stock/etf trader. Probably a smart time to trade futures too.

You trade index ETFs. It’s not that different. Except you could have been adding to your short position with futures while that’s not possible with SQQQ.

Curious, if I were to short 1 es/emini contract here, and it goes down 1/2 of the daily average recent range, roughly what are the numbers?

How much is 1 to short, what $ profit if I cover after its dropped 1/2 the range during next few hours?
