Dafugginman: FirstAlert is the top of the line in real-time filtering. It can filter the entire market on a tick by tick basis. I have had a filter that alerts me when a large bid upticks once, The BidSize > 5000, The BidSize is greater than the ask size, the avg20day volume is > 250k, etc etc etc...for years....so what you are asking about is not a long shot...infact, that is a very simple one. I used to use it alot on the NASDAQ to look for scalps..but it doesn't work as well now with the smaller spreads. What you are asking about is NYSE based...I have not tried that...but easy enough to do. As far as scans *similar* to what Oz does...those, or anything else you can think up can be done.....that being said...FirstAlert has a learning curve to over come...I have been using it for sometime....and seem to find little tricks all of the time. The support guys are always willing to help develop filters, but it still takes time to get it working the way you like it. Biggest problem IMO is that it can create info-overload...I used to have it doing a ton of things..now I have scaled it back to a few simple things and find it much more productive for me. Price depends on data feed...I think mine is > $500/month. Real-tick cost less, has better L2 displays (I use Cyber for that), and has the OZ filters built in. But, if you wanted to do custom scans on a large universe of stocks, I don't belive (I might be wrong) that there is a RT3 add-on that allows much customization. I looked at a few of them sometime ago..so it has been awhile. FirstAlert and Insight are the two that are the most robust in tick-by-tick stuff. jem:I have not had issues with stability or datafeed issues in along long time. I am on the Neovest feed. As far as maintaining the data...my main machine is *always* on and connected to the net(cable modem)...I have not had issues with data maintenance...infact, It has been months since I have even re-booted that machine. The only issue I had sometime ago (>1yr. ago) was slow data. One thing to note...they are working on a new product that all of the data is stored on their side...I do not know the timing and/or cost of that. cas
You will be amazed how many emails I receive every day from those who wish to try to run my Scans on their own with software other than RealTick. All I have to say is the following: 1. There is no cheaper way to run these Real Time scans and get consistently reliable results than using RealTick! I wasn't getting this kind of performance even when I was spending over $6,000 a month to run these scans. 2. Read number one again 3. In the future, you will be able to do "a lot more" with the Oz Scanners in RealTick (I can't say more than that on this issue at this time). 4. When it comes to stock trading, my concern has always been speed, reliability and price. Consequently, anything that I developed in the past went through some serious testing prior to release. And everything that I have been working on, in the last six years, (and have not released yet) goes through the same testing process. I will not have my name associated with a product that does not "deliver". I wish I could tell you more at this time, but I can't. I hope you understand ... so no more questions As to copyright law, Please let me ignore that one. I just can't take the pain this issue caused me while writing my last book, and I certainly don't wish to talk about it Tony
cas, you mentioned First Alert and Insight for customized tic by tic scans. I have never heard of Insight. Can you or someone else give me their website address. I would like to check them out?
Tony thnks for that phone call awhile back. I've found a few nice programs /filters to put into First ALert. I just had to really get over the learning curve of the product which takes some time. Neovest updated their software manual recently which helped me out a lot. Robert
SGD: Insight is here: http://www.insight-trading.com/ I don't know if they allow individual traders...or if they are just in offices. cas
I am debating whether to go with First Alert from neovest or Realtick. Can anyone outline the pros and cons of one vs the other. First Alert seems to be more powerful for programmimg scans. OTOH with realtick you have external scanners like sortwizard or Oz scanners. Any opinions on chosing one vs the other will be appreciated. chipdude
