Based on your previous posts, I assume these varying results are on a wired connection with your cable provider? Do the speed drops occur at certain times of day (like when the street lights come on)?

Both trading rigs are wired. The other computers in the house are wireless.

As for the speed drops, it can happen any time.

OK. My suggestion would be to call your cable ISP and try to get your call transferred from the first-level customer service to the more advanced technical support team. Then say you have a problem that occurs randomly and several techs have already checked out your home setup during multiple site visits. Then ask them to change your connection to a different router (at the ISP) than the one you are currently connected to. This is a backoffice change and does not require a visit to your home or any action on your part. Changing your ISP router is a last resort action when nothing else works, and it has worked for me when I had a similar problem last year. Good luck!

  5. Assuming you have cable internet - have they replaced the line from the pole to your house?

A lot of times there can be chafing and cracks from rubbing on the pole or if the wire is strung through trees or even UV or direct sunlight can cause the Coax cable to crack over time. When that happens it can act up when its windy or when it rains or just because.

Usually the techs will find every excuse in the book to NOT change out the line from the pole because its a bit of a pain - but it can make a huge difference.

Yep, they replaced that cable, the modem twice, and replaced the splitters inside the house; I put in a new wireless router (Cisco E4200 wireless n 2 channel)

    No idea on this one...:(

Anyone who used the speedtest website, try this one:

Instead of choosing the closest server, try one with about 1000 miles away. (you can zoom out using the scale on the left) Now measure your speed now.
If your speed didn't drop by 40-50%, be happy.

The point is that chances are, your broker's server isn't next door to you, so measuring speed in close vicinity is not exactly the best way to figure out if your internet speed is sufficient or not...

Ok, here's 3:40 PM Eastern at home location: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2019880720.png

    Here's 1,000 miles away going West: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2019884963.png

    Here's 1,000 miles away going north: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2019892169.png

    Here's 1,000 miles going South: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2019900203.png

No East reading? I'd be deep in the Atlantic by that point.:p

Here's 3:55 PM Eastern at my home location. Notice the swing in speed vs 15 minutes ago:( http://www.speedtest.net/result/2019906019.png
AN UNACCEPTABLE 54% DROP IN DOWNLOAD SPEED!

The 1,000 mile test didn't seem to swing much. What's killing me are the swings I'm having at home that can happen about any time. Take a look at my post above from last night. That one will shock you, no question. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2018514071.png

I'm at out of ideas on this one.:(

This isp is the only one in my area with ANY kind of speed and they know it. PLUS, I'm paying for 50! :( The other isp's you're lucky to get 5 down 1 up.

This is a major thorn in my ass as a performance computer is a waste if driven on "regular unleaded."

An entirely different topic, but important, is the psychological/emotional change that can occur due to low confidence in the data accuracy...

    Besides moving (lol), any ideas?
