Even though it was written in an older version of our language, the Constitution is a pretty damn easy read. It was intended that way, don't get me wrong there is some ambiguity, but we also have writings from the men who produced the Constitution, if the SC can't see what is obvious the layman, then they aren't doing their job. "To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions [is] a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy." -- Thomas Jefferson letter to William C. Jarvis, 1820. "It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man who knows what the law is today can guess what it will be tomorrow." -- James Madison
Everyone I talk to, be they liberal or conservative or anywhere in-between, agrees that our tax code is much too complex and needs to be simplified... Yet it never happens. The politicians just keep making it more and more complicated.
It's not that I am so arrogant as to presume I have all the answers.. it is simply written plain as day for any caring enough to look that the federal govt has overstepped (understatement of the year) its legal limits. In other words, these aren't even my thoughts, I am simply relaying the information. It is perfectly clear by the writings of the Founders that the fed govt is limited, literally, to the powers listed in the Constitution. "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite." -- James Madison, Federal No. 45, January 26, 1788 Ok well its time for me to get liquored up and like a pirate, go chase some booty! hopefully this thread doesn't die.. i can't wait to see some of the responses from the really irrational lefties. Anyway i liked the discussion today, have a good weekend gents.
I look at the tax code about the same way I look at MS Word. Millions of lines of code, most of which do not apply to my work. (This was less true in the early days.)
Translation: lil' Ricky is just fine with a ridiculously complicated tax code, it fits right in with his pro big government ideology.
Those are all good things. We should make cuts to the dept of offense to bring down the debt and pay for more of those things you listed above.
