The stats you post look healthy, but it is only 4 packets. I wonder whether they are always this clean, i.e. w/ out hiccups. I also wonder whether there is a firewall issue.

Anyway, I offered my help; we were going to run something more involved. You may not be interested.

    Thanks.

Thank you IBsoft for wasting your time with yet another IB bashing thread. Case closed. IB is still the best out there.

Cscott, please feel free to reveal the name of a better all around broker than IB.

  4. I disagree with the notion that IBSoft wasted his time. IBSoft publicly demonstrated, to all of us, a willingness to verify and to control quality of service, and a willingness to communicate with customers. It is important that IB do this, and it is not a waste of time. If the starter of this thread is not interested in working with IB to solve his problem, IB and its other customers still benefit by IBsoft's public demonstration of his willingness to work with customers. It also helps protect IB against the potentially damaging effect of unfair and uninformed criticism.

Big Jim, it's Friday, relax, have a beer, go see a movie or something. Put some fun into your life. Guess you didn't grasp my point. Oh well, have a good evening.

Yes, I realize it is only 4 packets and although the ping and traceroute look great, they may be terrible at a different time. Thanks for your suggestion and for not acting like kiwi or some of the others who choose to throw out useless snide comments. I will contact IB thru email or phone about this.

To others: I've also hosted my own domain on a paid server, and though my knowledge about TCP/IP is somewhat limited, I do know something about it. Concerning kiwi_trader's "reality", the REALITY is that most companies are reluctant to admit they have server problems or lack redundancy; instead they usually blame it on the customer's computer setup, internet traffic, or the customer's ISP. And if it's one of the three such as an ISP, they usually blame one of the other two such as internet traffic or the customer's computer setup.

  7. cscott,

I hardly think hosting your own domain qualifies you to provide meaningful assessments of the lack (or otherwise) of redundancy in "most" companies setups. And it certainly doesn't justify some implied deficiency in InteractiveBrokers infrastructure by association with "most" companies. But that is your implication, backed up by no facts whatsoever.

The reality is that the order execution and streaming data services provided by IB are very reliable. A simple index of this is these message boards. When there is a (rare) genuine server side issue there is screaming and yelling here from many posters - not just one individual with a handful of posts. It's one of the best network monitors around. These events happen every few months or so at most.

I log tick data from IB for the futures markets I am interested in - 24 hours a day. There are very few gaps in the data and 95% of the gaps are due to local issues - not IB. And I am on the other side of the world with ping times of 70 - 300 msecs depending on the market. This gives me a good feeling for IB reliablity and it is indeed excellent most of the time.

And yes, I do know something about computing, software development and data communications.

  8. OK. Finally something we can agree on.

Good to see you're finally going to contact IB and work it though with them. Also, DCraig is correct regarding the extension of what you've done to the assumptions (incorrect) that you make. :)

dcraig, you sound like an IB shill, just like kiwi_trader. Thanks guys for taking what I said out of context. Do you not realize that other people CAN read and accurately interpret what I have stated in spite of your twistings?

  10. Only one person is twisting anything here .... and it started with the first post and your title for the thread.

You don't understand the problem and despite peoples attempts to help you, you still havent got there.

Perhaps you are just another broker's shill? In that case you never were going to work it through with them ... its all just noise and illusion. So onto the next stage. Go on, leave IB, make my day :D
