Best jre version to use? I launch tws with this command line javaw.exe -cp jts.jar;hsqldb.jar;jcommon-1.0.12.jar;jfreechart-1.0.9.jar;jhall.jar;other.jar;rss.jar -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Xmx1024M jclient/LoginFrame . If I run tws with jre 6u23 or earlier, it's quite stable. However, if I run tws with jre 7u5 x64, it freezes seconds after it finishes loading. It's not just x64 jre, I had this happening on x86 jre 6 after u23, and 7 too. What versions of jre do you find stable?
Why don't you run using the same parameters provided in JNLP or in standalone install? You are missing -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
Recently it seems that the TWS demo is regularily not available at least on part of the weekend (today. also weekend before). Error message is: "Server error". TWS tries to authenticate in an endless loop. As usual clicking on the "View System Status" link on TWS login screen returns condition green "No problems." That makes it unnecessarily hard for retail people to develop and test software.
Bob111, rollout of the fix was suspended, it introduced other side effects; this is on our radar, and we are working to address this, I apologize for inconvenience.
I have the same problem. All started at the end of last month for me, some quotes for inactive symbols from US exchanges started too disappear at level1, but I could see them in level2 book (witch is useless as most of you know). Customer service of course said that I am idiot and do not have current java or other crap and after short investigation they closed the issue. c.a. 2 weeks ago this data problem started to look like a nightmare, several symbols sometimes disappeared for hours, appeared sometimes during tab switch and disappeared again. More investigation, this time with more capable of thinking customer service rep, helped me to find out that this is SMART data problem only. So anytime you go directly to the exchange for level1 data (Directed quotes) you get them!. This now looks like obvious programming error, but it seems they either ignore it or can't fix it so far. btw. Today's roll-over did not help at all. At the moment I took holidays, I almost don't trade stocks/etfs any more. Only last week I have started to trade directly without SMART but it is harder to be honest. Fortunately market is quiet anyway. I am very active trader as for a small guy and I used to pay thousands of dollars per month as a commission but they seem not to care. To be honest I have started to look for competitive platforms, any advice? Regards, Dariusz
IB - Market depth for all the NYMEX products (CL, RB, HO) has been flashing in and out like crazy since the 6pm open yesterday (August 21), sometimes lines disappear, sometimes it shows 20 bids, no offers, etc... Also getting strange negative quotes for the intercommodity cracks, i.e. OCT RB.CL shows 25.50 bid, -93.62 offer so you can't trade it off booktrader. It's not a NYMEX/GLOBEX issue, I'm getting the correct quote through another broker. This started happening at 6pm last night, up to the 5:15pm eastern close everything was working fine and I've never seen this behavior before.
Just to clarify, both issues started happening at the same time last night so I assume they are related. Also in addition to not being able to trade the intercommodity crack through booktrader (because it centers on the incorrect midpoint), any buy orders you submit on the RB.CL crack throw up percentage warning errors due to the negative ask price.
If anyone is looking at this, the "flashing and disappearing" market depth appears to have been corrected around 10:45am eastern, fingers crossed!
I haven't used TWS since April of this year. Could anyone tell me whether they have spread order functionality for options on NYBOT soft futures? Only last time i looked they would only allow calendars. ICE definitely allows these orders.
All the NYMEX data issues appear to be fixed as of this morning, depth & spreads are quoting normally again, thanks IB. RPEX - I'm pretty sure you can do exchange-routed verticals, straddles, etc... in the softs; I just quoted the Dec 75 straddle in cotton and it came up fine.
