In the old days IB had one customer service rep (15+ years ago)...No matter when you called the same obnoxious, crude woman would answer the phone...I got the feeling that she really enjoyed being difficult and giving customers the runaround on every question... Like I said, many many years ago.
Would we prefer that a client understand the terms of the option contract prior to entering into the position? The answer is obviously yes, which is why trading permissions are conditioned upon client representations of product knowledge and prior experience and disclosures such OCC's Option Disclosure Document which are provided beforehand. That notwithstanding, the client is correct in reading this as a response which lacks common courtesy. It is certainly not the impression we intend to convey and it will be dealt with internally. Lastly, while it is reassuring to hear comments by posters of improved service, any client who feels that they have not been treated in a courteous manner should request a supervisor or PM me.
You lack trading experience. You do not know what to happen, but you buy a naked put first. This action is wrong. If you are simply curious, you should NOT enter that position up using your real money at the first place. hummm is a childish response. The question you asked " the short position would be at the strike" shows you lack basic option knowledge. I would hate to communicate with some one trading with real money but does not know what is going on and what will happen next. You look drunk, not the customer service rep. the customer rep gave you a professional response. She is very polite and professional.
Much more than you can obviously figure out. My "who are you?" question sought a name, which I didn't receive. But since you're so observant and clever, what was their name? EDIT
