how can it rise simultaneously on both the northern and southern hemipsheres. my point?! yes, i acknowlege I'm struggling to make one ... -THE SUN DOES NOT RISE, DESPITE WHAT FACTS WE'VE BEEN FED!
lol @ this ID bs. Seems every forum has huge threads like this. Here is a question for both ZZZZ and Tele. Are you both Christians?
Ever read about Newton's work with sniffing chemicals during his alchemist days? While Newton was a logical genius on some things, he was a comple crackpot on others. Every time I hear anybody use Newton as an authority figure on religion because of his theological beliefs and connecting that to his contributions to the scientific community, I have to laugh, because people also conveniently ignore his looniness, or don't really know anything about him and are unaware of just how "out there" Newton really was. You have to take the whole package with him. You can't appeal to his authority on one thing based upon his intelligence and in the same sentence ignore the facts about him personally that completely negate that "appeal to authority" argument.
Neo: >how can it rise simultaneously on both the >northern and southern hemipsheres. Well, since the sun is situated (relative to our globe) nearest the equator, the above issue is a non-issue. Stepping across the equator into another hemisphere doesn't change the relative behavior of the sun in any significant way, only it's relative timing. >my point?! yes, i acknowlege I'm struggling to make one ... - Agreed. >THE SUN DOES NOT RISE, DESPITE WHAT FACTS >WE'VE BEEN FED! Simply not true. The "FACT" that you've been fed has *never been* (in our lifetimes at least) a fact that the sun "rises" relative to some other solar system, or other planet, or other worlds -- it's relative to our horizon. To look at a rise/set chart and to claim someone is feeding you a line of BS facts is just an incredible demonstration of ignorance on your part. Hell, you can't get past grade school without getting the chance to know that the sun isn't a jumping bean hopping over our heads day after day. Geeez. The fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west IS A FACT when you apply first grade logic and take the fact in the context it was given. Your position sounds a bit like the old silly grade school playground question -- "which way's down?". I suppose when you point at your feet, that fact is wrong too. ??? JB
I haven't done the math, but intuitivily, I must say, the sun actually SINKS relative to our horizon as it RISES... which is to say, it becomes more distant to the horizon as the day progresses so there ... yes, it is a childish game ... but so is most everything.. ... especially killing peoples' gods ... as if they won't simply be ressurected in another form my only caveat ... any man claiming to be (a) god ... should be quickly strucken down
I hereby posit a resource to add to, and give some depth to this discourse. Stanley Sobottka Emeritus Professor of Physics University of Virginia http://faculty.virginia.edu/consciousness/ Jesus
Creation is a game to keep a bored super creator being busy laughing with mirthless glee at the various antics of the created. The game, just as with any game, has its rules and rule books. You break them, you go here, if you play the game well, you go there. At the end of the day, you're a tool. Whether you think you're a little god, part of god or God or Consciouses or not. You're still a tool. Just like the little hamster spinning the wheel in it's cage. Most are oblivious to the nature of the game being played and keep on spinning the wheel furiously. After all, it's an entertaining activity.
Good slide show -- thanks for the link. "Many Worlds" interpretation is still my choice. It simultaneously resolves both the conflict with Einstein's special relativity and explains "randomness" as the product of splitting every probability contained in the wave function into a separate universe. Thus, everything that "can" happen, actually "does" happen -- just in different universes. "Many Worlds" also eliminates the need for a creator, explains paranormal phenomenon of ghosts (different outcomes to end of life in other universes) -- pretty much covers the waterfront. Also, explains evolution and abiogenesis in the same manner as does string theory: we are inhabitants of a universe where life exists, despite the low probability of its occurrance -- because if it "can" happen, then it "does" happen -- and we're here to debate it as a consequence.
