installing new P4 chip

    I'm installing a new P4 to a new motherboard. Should I seat the pins in the chip before I install the heat sink, or is tightening the heat sink down the best way to seat the pins? I could support the motherboard from underneath and put pressure on the top of the chip if that is how it should be done. I just don't want to break anything. Thanks.

    Seat the pins? MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY! It's a ZIF, i.e. Zero Insertion Force. The chip should simply drop into the socket and be flush with it. Then you pull the lever to tighten it down; of course, you already released the lever before you tried to install the chip.:)
