I'm installing a new P4 to a new motherboard. Should I seat the pins in the chip before I install the heat sink, or is tightening the heat sink down the best way to seat the pins? I could support the motherboard from underneath and put pressure on the top of the chip if that is how it should be done. I just don't want to break anything. Thanks.

  2. ... After carefully installing the motherboard in the system unit case, the P4 Chip is then installed with the Heat Sink and its very large Cooling Fan.

  3. Seat the pins? MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY! It's a ZIF, i.e. Zero Insertion Force. The chip should simply drop into the socket and be flush with it. Then you pull the lever to tighten it down; of course, you already released the lever before you tried to install the chip.:)
