A representative of the Arizona prosecutors office was just on TV saying Arizona does not have a "not guilty by reason of insanity" law. Instead if you are found guilty and insane, you are placed in an institution until you are certified sane then sent to jail (not released) for your crime.
Arizona has a reputation for being tough on crime, which is why the state has one of the lowest per capita rates of violent crime.
Which of course is exactly how it should be. The "not guilty by reason of insanity" plea/defense is one of the most misused and abused aspects of our justice system.
I think this will be a death penalty case so I'm glad he won't get life in an institution. In my opinion, the killing of the little girl is the most hannis of his murders and the most compelling reason to sentence the guy to death.
