Can someone help here. What is the contract size of the Indian Nifty50 Equity Index futures traded on the NSE in India?
    • Tick size/increment is INR0.05
    • But what is the unit? eg, Nifty50 x [?unit?]. For example, ES is $50 x S&P 500 Index. Easy.
    • What is a tick worth in INR?
It seems there are numerous/duplicate pages to reference. I can't find a clear answer on any.
    https://www.nseindia.com/products/content/derivatives/equities/nifty_50_FO.htm

The best I have found buried in these pages is a reference to a "Base Value" which is given as simply "1000". With no currency designator. Is that the Contract Unit? Could easily be, except that is is not very clearly stated as such. And kind of hard to find.

    Can I assume Tick x Base = 0.05 x INR1000 = 1 Tick = INR50 (which is about USD0.70)

Additionally, this appears to be a near identical USD denominated contract, but still doesn't state the contract base. Is this on an international sub-exchange of the domestic NSE?

    Forget all the documentation.

Pull the instrument up on your trading platform in sim, enter a trade, and see what happens with each tick.

Then call your broker and ask for performance-bond requirement.

Never assume anything. Call your broker and ask. Trade it on your sim charts to verify.

Agree. I don't really trust anything. In practical reality, I should be able to trust... and comprehend... an exchange website.

I remember when Sierra Chart had a contract spec wrong. So a trade in SIM still gave incorrect results. I literally had to direct them to the exchange website before they would update the platform settings. They blamed CQG. And another time when AMP had a contract spec wrong in MultiCharts. Not their actual clearing system, obviously, but still, I don't trust a lot these days. When I checked with them to confirm the specs, they just read back to me the incorrect info in the trading platform.

The best way is to buy/sell and check your statement! ;)

IBKR lists a multiplier of 1.
    https://contract.ibkr.info/v3.10/index.php?action=Conid Info&wlId=IB&conid=381499156&lang=en

That is their way expressing Contract Unit. eg, ES has a multiplier of 50. eg, 0.25 tick increment x $50 = $12.50/tick

    So tick increment of 0.05 x INR1 = INR0.05 Tick value. ??? wtf
I will be calling them to check on Monday.

Is the NSE Indian contract even available for trading outside the country? Years ago I think I traded it on the Singapore exchange which is USD denominated. And its a really small contract.

The Qty multiplier is 75 for 1 lot or 1 contract
    Tick size is 0.05
    Tick size 0.05*75 = 3.75 INR or 0.052 USD
NIFTY index current value approx 10900
    Total contract value 1 lot = 75*10900 = 8,17,500 INR or 11,412 USD
Overnight Margin by NSE exchange for 1 Lot= 10100 INR or 1397 USD
Intraday Margin (varies from broker to broker) = 30% to 50% of overnight margin

NSE contract spec are little different than how CME spec is

Nifty traded at singapore exchnage has different spec.

    Thank you good Sir.

I must have woken up stupid, because no where on any of exchange spec pages for the instrument can I find the number "75". Did I miss something?

Comforting that the INR75 unit size indeeds produces a USD tick value almost the same as when using the IBKR multiplier value of 1 (must be USD1)

No it has nothing to do with 1USD.
As I said NSE futures spec are different than CME futurs spec.
In CME the tick size differs from instrument to instrument.
But In NSE for all futures instrument(index and stocks) the tick size is constant that is 0.05
But the Lot size differs. There is no such concept of lot size in CME.

Lot size can be increased and decreased by the exchnage as they see fit.
Here is the link which has the latest lot size for all instruments.
