Yep, they elected to go for herd immunity with no curve flattening. Likely they calculated that their medical system will not be overrun.

They will experience a rapid increase but overall recover quicker. I don't know who makes these life or death calculations and the decisions that stem from them but it seems like a cold calculation to make.
