All numbers pro rated by population. Less infections, less chance of a massive uncontrolled problem, and less deaths. Numbers in US was roughly triple Canada as of Saturday. Plus it just feels a lot calmer and less stressed here in general. I have some family members ( in laws ) that are American citizens. I believe we took in more immigrants in recent years then the US; certainly far more immigrants from Asian countries. It's a non factor on this topic. Health of Americans may be worse couldn't tell you but that also speaks to the need to improve your health care system and make it more inclusive.
Cross border health care is a tiny, tiny number that some Americans keep pointing to but it's absolutely pointless in the bigger picture. Is this what you want, a heath care system that treats rich impatient Canadians ahead of Americans without money ? Many Americans just seem gullible on these topics.
Americans without money are treated ahead nowadays. Some are still gullible on the myth of lack of inclusivity.
In a few articles I have read... latent TB is a significant risk of death with Covid. Wuhan had a lot of latent TB Italy's immigrants had high rates of TB Some of our immigrants have had high rates of TB the last few years. NYC may have similar immigrant and latent TB problems... Maybe CA too. Again... I am not saying this is the case in NYC but Cuomo hinted at it when he said the difference for his state is that its strength is that it welcomes everyone.
OTOH, BCG vaccinations are seem to be beneficiary, and US avoids doing them for a number of reasons. They are giving BCG to 4k frontline medical providers in Australia as a part of a study right now.
That is Rat Beach. I lived there for years. That jetty is the entrance to King Harbor and that is the Redondo Beach power plant. Waves are mostly non-existent and the beach closes at night. If you even walk down there at night you get busted. Also it is illegal to throw a frisbee there. Its the most uptight beach run by assholes on the entire Earth. I pretty much daily road biked up the Strand on the right all they way up to Malibu which is visible in the photo and back. I would troll for races on the downwind trip back to Redondo. Nice 36 mile ride even though it is flat. Headwind up to Malibu and tailwind back to Redondo. Any roadies here? I have a vintage Trek 2500 upgraded to STI and a Trek Madone, all Dura-Ace. Got a LeMond Revmaster spinner in my home, its my secret weapon in the winter. Anyone on Strava?
I just think this is just another case of Americans assuming their social systems are sustainable and effective and at some point that became untrue. Eventually some piece of evidence becomes very clear and the country has to make changes. This is what happened with the flooding, the fires, the federal debt, the subprime crisis, the environment, shootings, etc etc. You are a country that seems to have to be in a huge crisis before you'll make changes. Even in crisis, the endless political debates and working through the bs delays the solutions until things are almost desperate. This was a huge mistake concerning this virus.
I can't argue with that. I have been saying we get the worst ideas of the left and the worst ideas of the right for years. The issue is that the people understand we either need much less govt or we need better govt. When the left wins is promises things like single payer health care and instead we get insurance company care that charges more as you make more. The most non market pricing mechanism you can use. Allows the health care to suck almost by design because we lose the power of the purse. When the right tries to lower taxes and shrink govt as we did with the sequester...We quickly learned we did not need all that govt.... so what did Ryan McConnell do? They worked with democrats to quickly surrender the gains. We get the worst of both sides by design of the cronies. another one... Welfare... great... but welfare with benefit cliffs... hurts every tax payer and every recipient who would like to move up and out.
