Denmark ends most virus restrictions, as Sweden extends them
Denmark’s government says it will scrap most pandemic restrictions next week, even as neighboring Sweden has extended its own measures for another fortnight

Sweden cuts waiting period for Covid booster to three months
Sweden’s Public Health Agency now recommends shortening the interval between the second and third dose of the Covid vaccine from five to three months.
    https://www.thelocal.se/20220201/sweden-cuts-waiting-period-for-covid-booster-to-three-months/

More than 45 percent of over-18s in Sweden have been given a booster dose, but the agency said it wanted to speed up the process amid a sharp rise in Covid infections.

The new recommendations come three weeks after Sweden reduced the booster waiting time from six to five months, a decision that came later than many other European countries.

Denmark currently offers the third dose four and a half months after the second, Italy four months, Spain five months, and Germany, France and the UK three months.

Sweden recommends using half a dose of Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine or a full dose of Pfizer/Biontech’s Comirnaty as the third dose. The latter is recommended for under-31s.

Swedish regions are responsible for their own healthcare so it is ultimately up to them to decide how and when to roll out boosters to more people, although they are generally likely to follow the Public Health Agency’s advice. Sweden recommends fourth COVID-19 jab for the elderly
    https://wtvbam.com/2022/02/14/sweden-recommends-fourth-covid-19-jab-for-the-elderly/

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Sweden’s Health Agency recommended on Monday that people aged 80 or above should receive a second booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine, the fourth jab in total, to ward off waning immunity amid the rampant spread of the Omicron variant.

The recommendation also covered all people living in nursing homes or who receive assisted living services at home. The second booster shot should be administered at least four months after the first booster jab, the agency said in a statement.

Sweden hit record levels of infections earlier this year as Omicron spread rapidly across the country.

But authorities are banking on booster shots and the milder symptoms of the variant to ease the pressure on healthcare and removed restrictions and scaled back testing this month.

Infections remain pervasive and the Health Agency said a growing number of cases among groups at greater risk of serious disease, such as nursing home residents, had been recorded in recent weeks.

“A booster dose strengthens protection. Therefore we believe people 80 years or older will benefit from a second booster dose,” Chief Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said.

As with the first round of booster shots, the jabs should consist of Pfizer/Biontech or Moderna vaccines, the agency said.

Do you remember all the bitching and complaining by the Covidiots in this thread that the low risk freedoms should be respected and just protect the elderly ???

In addition, I remember all the criticism towards Anders Tegnell that didn't protect the elderly early into the Pandemic...resulted in Sweden having one of the worst death rates.
    • Now Sweden is doing just that, protecting their elderly with a planned 2nd booster dose. Just as importantly, it's what the elderly want...their choice.
Regardless, the effectiveness of vaccines, types of vaccines that the population is using, and the number of dosages is the determining factor of when the elderly needs a 2nd booster dose.

Simply, one country may need a 2nd booster shot for the elderly while another country does not or one country needs a 2nd dose earlier while another country needs a 2nd dose later in the year based upon the above-mentioned variables.

Sweden and many countries recognize the elderly has been a major problem and I think they're preventing a disaster but like all the other countries...have given up on those that are not vaccinated and moving on without them while hoping a new Variant of Concern doesn't show up to continue the worst outcomes in those not vaccinated.

What’s next for the Covid pandemic in Sweden?
The Swedish Public Health Agency believes that the spread of Covid-19 has peaked and will continue to decrease this spring, but a second scenario warns healthcare services to be prepared in case a new virus variant appears.
    https://www.thelocal.se/20220221/whats-next-for-the-covid-pandemic-in-sweden/

The new scenarios presented by the Public Health Agency are not a prognosis, but are meant as a tool for healthcare services to plan for the coming months.

Scenario 0, which the agency believes is the most likely, is that the spread of infection will continue to decrease to a low level, where it will remain until the summer.

“We are in a new stage of the pandemic where there is broad immunological protection in the population, since many are vaccinated and have had the infection. Even if the spread of infection were to rise again, it is unlikely that many would become seriously ill,” state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said in a statement.

The agency’s second scenario, scenario 1, plans for a hypothetical new variant of the virus spreading from around March 20th. It assumes that this variant is as infectious as Omicron, with three-month protection for those who have previously been infected with Omicron.

In this scenario, the spread of infection would instead increase during spring 2022, reaching a peak in mid-May.

The agency said it believes the latter scenario to be unlikely, although it cannot be ruled out.

“This is why it is important that healthcare services are highly prepared,” Tegnell said. “Well-followed hygiene routines are the foundation for preventing the spread of infection. By continuing to monitor and test nationally within healthcare, we can see changes in the spread of infection and demand for healthcare, and can even discover new variants of the virus.”

These new scenarios cover the period from now until May 20th. New scenarios will be presented by the agency on April 20th.

The Public Health Agency stated that it does not currently see any reason to reintroduce measures to limit the spread of infection based on these scenarios, but added that “it is likely that Covid-19 will require further vaccinations for all or parts of the population during future winter seasons”.

Currently, around 84 percent of Sweden’s over-12 population have been vaccinated with two or more doses.

Sweden ended most Covid restrictions on February 9th. On the same day it stopped testing the general public, limiting them to staff and patients in the health and elderly care sectors. That same week, a total of 62,406 new infections were confirmed, down 66 percent on the previous week. A total of 2,422,856 Covid infections have been confirmed in Sweden since the start of the pandemic.

The number of deaths with Covid reached its highest level in a year during those two weeks. On February 3rd, 55 deaths were reported, the highest number since January 30th last year. In total, 16,852 people have died in Sweden within 30 days after testing positive for Covid.

The number of Covid patients in intensive care has been on a downward curve since early February. Eighty-one Covid patients were receiving intensive care on Monday, according to public broadcaster SVT’s database – a decrease of ten patients in one week.

The Coronavirus Commission, appointed to examine Sweden’s coronavirus strategy, is set to present its final report later this week. You can read more about its findings in its first two reports here and here. The Local will cover the release of the final report on Friday.

So here we are two years in and the numbers between Sweden and Germany are almost identical. It is yet another post that did not age well for GWB-Faking.

According to GWB-Trading, Germany had a great response, Sweden had a terrible response.

The numbers reveal an almost identical outcome.

So let's step through history once again. In 2020 Sweden attempted a "natural herd immunity" strategy to address Covid. It failed terribly. Even the Prime Minister and King stated the approach failed terribly. Sweden had over 10X the Covid deaths per capita of nearby countries.

After this through most of late 2020 and 2021, Sweden adopted Covid approach with lockdowns, restrictions, vaccine passports (even a vaccine passport on a microchip), school closures, and other mitigation measures. After this change in approach the results in Sweden matched most other countries in Europe.

But you can never understand context and history apparently.

Lets step through reality. So you are claiming that through half the pandemic Sweden was wide open, Germany took your approach, and they both have the same results.

Got it. You have been wrong from day 1.
