Sweden's excess deaths in 2020 lower than most European countries, data shows https://www.i24news.tv/en/news/coro...lower-than-most-european-countries-data-shows Sweden, the country that was widely criticized for its lax policy early on during the coronavirus pandemic, emerged from 2020 with a smaller increase in its overall mortality rate than most European states, news agency Reuters reported on Wednesday. Twenty-one of the 30 countries with available statistics had higher excess mortality than Sweden. However, Sweden did worse than its Nordic neighbors, with Denmark recording just 1.5 percent excess mortality and Finland 1 percent. Norway had no excess mortality at all in 2020.
Thousands of mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles, grandparents dying alone, in agony due to mistaken policy. Imagine they were pets you have feelings for not humans you don't relate to.
So let's take a look at today's news from Sweden -- oh, they are locking down even more. Sweden to implement more COVID measures as Omicron squeezes healthcare https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/sweden-introduces-more-measures-covid-cases-rise-2022-01-10/ STOCKHOLM, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Sweden will introduce more measures to stem a rising number of COVID cases that have placed a greater burden on the healthcare system, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said on Monday. Sweden has seen the fastest spread of COVID cases in recent weeks as the Omicron variant has surged through the country. A record 60,000 cases were detected last week, despite limited testing capabilities. read more "The situation has deteriorated, without doubt. The level of infections in Sweden is at a historically high level," Andersson told a news conference. The new measures, most of which will be introduced on Wednesday, include a work-from-home mandate, where possible, and a cap on the number of people allowed at public events. Restaurants will have to close by 11 p.m. and guests will have to be seated and in groups no greater than eight people. Adults will be asked to limit social contact in indoor settings. The measures will be evaluated after two weeks, but are expected to be in place for at least four weeks. Still, while infection numbers have soared, the number of COVID patients hospitalized iswell below the peaks seen in previous waves. The number of new deaths has also been comparatively low. More than 1,000 people are being treated in hospital for COVID and roughly 100 of them are in intensive care units. The strain on healthcare is being exacerbated by the spread by other respiratory viruses as well as staff shortages, the National Board of Health and Welfare said. "Unfortunately, we need to make another effort to get down the number of new infections," Andersson said. The health agency said on Monday that the peak of the wave will come later than previously expected and that the Omicron variant made the disease harder to predict. The previous assessment was for a peak in mid-January and then a gradual decline.
I thought according to jem everyone in Sweden had "natural herd immunity' by now. Even those with no detectable Covid antibodies were protected my "magical T-cell immunity" according to jem. Whatever... Sweden sets new record of COVID cases, sees peak at end of January https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...ak-end-january-amid-omicron-spike-2022-01-13/
I can give you Jem's email and you can ask him if you like, I'm sure he misses this shit just do any of us miss Jem?
Sweden scraps demand for negative COVID test to enter country https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...negative-covid-test-enter-country-2022-01-18/
Thought jem told us that Sweden has "natural herd immunity" --- yet here they warning the population that they will be overrun by Covid in the upcoming weeks. Warning people they need to stay at home is possible and get vaccinated to protect themselves & others. Covid-19: Many people in Sweden ‘risk becoming infected in coming weeks’ https://www.thelocal.se/20220120/co...weden-risk-becoming-infected-in-coming-weeks/ Sweden's Public Health Agency on Thursday cut the quarantine period for those infected with Covid-19, to keep society running as more and more people catch the virus. “We still have a very high spread of infection across the country, and we conclude that a large proportion of the population risk becoming infected in the coming weeks,” Sara Byfors, head of department at the Public Health Agency, told a press conference. Citing difficulties experienced by some workplaces, who are struggling to function as usual given the high amount of staff absence due to quarantine regulations, the Public Health Agency announced changes to quarantine and testing rules. The following groups of symptom-free household contacts are no longer required to stay home from school or work if a member of their household tests positive: those who have received a booster vaccination those who have been infected with Covid-19 within the last three months some key workers, providing that other measures to avoid infection are taken Note that this only covers staying home from school or work – these groups are still advised to avoid social arrangements or leisure activities where they are likely to meet other people. Those who do not fall into these groups must quarantine for five days, starting from the day when the person in their household first started showing symptoms of Covid-19. This was previously seven days. For those who are infected with the virus, quarantine has also been shortened to five days, as long as the person in question has been fever free and feeling well for at least the last 48 hours. This also applies to those who have not been able to get tested. Children in preschool should still stay at home if new symptoms arise, and can go back to school once they are feeling well again. Testing rules have also been updated, with testing now prioritised when there’s a medical need and for those working in healthcare and elderly care, as well as those who need to physically be at work and schoolchildren. Other groups should stay at home until they feel well before returning to work. Those who have taken an antigen test at home which has returned a positive result no longer need to book a PCR test to confirm infection. Those who have symptoms but tested negative on an antigen test should stay home for at least five days until they feel well again. Screening with antigen tests is now recommended in some workplaces, such as healthcare services, and may be relevant in other sectors. Byfors also underlined the importance of vaccination against Covid-19: “It’s important that vaccination efforts reach as many people as possible so that the consequences of the high rate of infection are limited as much as possible.” Byfors specifically highlighted the importance of vaccination for pregnant women, stating that they have a higher risk than others of the same age of becoming seriously ill if infected with Covid-19, as well as complications which can occur if they become infected with Covid-19 during pregnancy. Vaccination against the disease also protects the unborn child from Covid-19. “If you are pregnant, get vaccinated. It also protects the child – partly as you have less risk of being infected with Covid-19, and there is also a protective effect for some time after birth,” she said.
To be fair to jem...I don't think he understood that there will be more Variant of Concern popping up and he didn't understand that Sweden's healthcare system would have quickly been over-run by a pathogenic Covid variant mutation. It would have taken a tiny percentage of Sweden's population to over-run their healthcare system. In addition, he didn't anticipate Anders Tegnell getting vaccinated and the entire public health agency encouraging citizens to get vaccinated along with them publicly admitting that their Natural Immunity experiment had failed. Another laugh, he didn't realize Sweden has a social democratic government while he express his dislike of Democrats in other threads. In addition, we know who are the others in this thread that didn't realize the same thing. It's simple, you don't try a Natural Immunity healthcare policy in a Pandemic. It's something that you try when it's no longer a Pandemic to minimize mass casualty from a pathogenic Variant of Concern as it was when the Pandemic first started. wrbtrader
