Yes, thank you for reminding us that COVID is not as deadly as when it was a novel virus and neither a vaccine nor therapeutics existed.
There are 4 times this Sweden thread should have died but the Covid Deniers just can't believe what has happened: Swedish Health Officials and Tegnell himself admitted in the late fall of 2020 that their "health care experiment" had failed and then they denied it was the Natural Herd Immunity they were using. Sweden released statistics the showed Sweden's GDP had suffered and there has been increasing suicides / mental illness above the norm when Sweden did not lockdown. Recent reality that the two punch combo of vaccinations and strict restrictions had declined Sweden's infections / hospitalizations / ICUs / deaths. It's been over one year now in the Pandemic...Sweden still has not been able to outperform its Scandinavian neighbors and Sweden still has similar anti-restriction protests. The known trolls in this thread just can not let reality grasp any of the above. wrbtrader
Swedish PM sees “beginning of the end”, eases COVID restrictions next week https://www.reuters.com/business/he...is-ebbing-fast-sweden-expert-says-2021-05-27/ Sweden will ease some of its COVID-19 restrictions from June 1 as new cases have fallen sharply in recent weeks, the government said on Thursday, as it presented a roadmap to open up society. Sweden has been an outlier in the fight against the pandemic and has opted against full lockdowns, instead relying on mostly voluntary measures. It has been hit by a severe third wave of the virus but fresh cases and the number of people being admitted to intensive care are declining quickly. "We are beginning to glimpse the beginning of the end," Prime Minister Lofven told a news conference. The previously announced easing includes longer opening hours for restaurants and cafes, as well as raising the number of spectators at sports events and visitors at museums and amusement parks. "We are now seeing a sharp reduction in the spread of infection in almost all of Sweden," Swedish Health Agency head Johan Carlson said. "These are declines of 30-40 percent in the last week. That is very close to what we presented in our most optimistic scenario a month ago," he said. The remaining rules and recommendations will be eased in five steps with the aim to have all of them wound down by September. The voluntary guidelines include asking citizens to work from home, wearing masks in certain situations and to keep social interactions as low as possible. Binding rules have included curbs on restaurant opening hours, limiting the number of people in shops and malls and effectively closing museums, public pools and amusement parks. Sweden registered 1,366 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, health agency statistics showed, the lowest number of new daily cases for more than seven months, though the agency said the figures could be revised because of a technical error. The country has administered 4.9 million vaccine shots, with 44.3% of the adult population having received one dose. Some 15.7% are fully vaccinated. Fifteen new deaths were registered, taking the total to 14,451 out of a population of 10 million. The deaths registered have occurred over several days and sometimes weeks. Sweden has had among the highest number of cases per capita in recent months, but the number of deaths from the pandemic this year has been at the lower end of the scale in Europe. The total death toll during the pandemic has been higher than in other Nordic countries but lower than in most European countries that opted for lockdowns.
Vaccinations and strict restrictions is now working very well in Sweden. Unfortunately, it took Sweden to late fall of 2020 to admit their healthcare policy had failed involving what they had been using. Yet, their backtracking (denial) it was the Natural Herd Immunity policy is shameful and pathetic. Simply, their inability to admit it was the Natural Herd Immunity Experiment that cost the lives of so many people because they were: Not able to protect their ethnic communities Not able to protect those with underlying medical conditions Not able to protect the elderly This something the Swedish people will never forget especially when they compare their Covid performance to Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway... A very tough lesson to learn especially as the stats revealed their goal of the no lockdown policy to protect the GDP and mental well being had also failed in comparison to their neighboring Scandinavian countries. Ironically, they still had just as much anti-restriction protests as their neighboring countries although they blame it on "outsiders" that enter their country during the Pandemic. wrbtrader
The proper method was The Sweden Method-----Let it run through the healthy population. They did very very well. Some of our governors like Noem understood this.
Sweden had over 10X the deaths (per capita) of neighboring countries and their economy performed worse during the pandemic than their neighbors. This is hardly the definition of a proper public health response.
I will also note that -- as outlined by Sweden's government officials -- their success in greatly reducing their recent COVID wave is solely due to vaccinations. Despite these improvements, Sweden still had more cases per capita in recent weeks than any other European country.
All the articles out of Sweden itself, all the statistics out of Sweden itself and all whitewashing by Covid Deniers / Whitewashers of Truth like Buy1Sell2... Natural Herd Immunity Failed. Sweden admits that much but still refuses call it the Natural Herd Immunity Experiment is just another form of whitewashing. The good thing, Sweden Health Officials and the Swedish people have realized that Vaccination Herd Immunity and Strict Restrictions has been the right way to go and their statistics shows such. They in fact now do see what works and what does not work... They see the light at the end of the tunnel...at least Sweden will soon catch another good Covid performer...Denmark. Without the vaccinations...the world will be still in the dark. Hopefully countries heavy with Covid Deniers / Anti-Vaxxers like India will see the importance of vaccines too. wrbtrader
Anybody with a brain can see the waves of virus deaths on this chart in the link below. There is no mystery here. Viruses virus. Gwb told germany was the model country with the model approach... Compare that to Sweden. This virus picked off the high risk. The high risk were also the vast majority of the super spreaders per recent studies. Every country should have done what were were saying from the beginning. Isolate and protect the high risk better...let the low risk live there lives. They could protect themselves as they wished. https://ourworldindata.org/explorer...L~CAN~FRA~GRC~GBR~USA&Metric=Confirmed+deaths
