Sweden still doing second best on the list I have been following. (Using the the Johns Hopkins data) Stunning isn't it... these lefties poured on the hate and the bullshit but Sweden is doing as well as many other countries... Could it be that for some of the variants a segment of the population had to develop immunities in order for the the deaths per day to turn back down? Looking at how the two curves in the spring and the fall were similar in so many countries... you really can't dismiss that as a possibility. Hopefully the vaccines will prevent a new wave from happening... When I checked the official website... although ICU admits are trending down... infections are not... so we may be at a balancing point. Here is the important data with respect to deaths_ https://ourworldindata.org/explorer...e&country=SWE~DEU~ESP~BEL~CAN~FRA~GRC~GBR~USA
Let's compare Sweden to its direct neighbors. https://ourworldindata.org/explorer...Align+outbreaks=false&country=SWE~DNK~FIN~NOR Deaths are looking pretty dismal in Sweden.
New Covid-19 variants now dominate in half of Sweden’s regions https://www.thelocal.se/20210316/new-covid-19-variants-now-dominate-in-half-of-swedens-regions/ All but two of Sweden's 21 regions expect the coronavirus situation within the healthcare sector to get worse in the near future, according to an update from state agencies on Tuesday. Sweden’s 14-day incidence rate has reached 545 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents, which state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell stressed was a “very high figure”. A 14-day incidence rate above 500 means a region or country is a “dark red zone” according to the European Centre of Disease Control (ECDC), the highest risk on a four-point scale. Gävleborg was cited as one of the worst affected Swedish regions, where the incidence rate had reached 981, while Stockholm (incidence rate of 607) was also reporting a steady rise in cases. Västra Götaland had a similar rate to Stockholm (613) while Skåne had a clear downward trend in new cases with an incidence rate of 383, similar to Kronoberg where the incidence rate had fallen to 264. Tegnell said the variations highlighted the need for “adapted recommendations in different parts of the country”. Ten of Sweden’s 21 regions currently have local recommendations in place, most including a recommendation against non-essential travel, and a recommendation to wear face masks at all times in indoor environments where close contact can’t be avoided. The positive news from the briefing was a continued week-on-week decline in newly reported deaths from the virus, which Tegnell said was “with all likelihood an effect of the very targeted vaccination programme”. The briefing also addressed the increasing presence of new variants of the coronavirus, which are in some cases believed to be more contagious. The variant B.1.1.7, first reported in the UK, was present in more than 50 percent of positive tests analysed in 13 regions, with the exact figure ranging from 16 to 72 percent between different regions. Variants first discovered in South Africa (P.1) and Brazil (B.I.351) had been discovered at a lower rate, only appearing in more than ten percent of cases or more in four regions. Sweden introduced a ban on travel from the UK and Norway after outbreaks of the B.1.1.7 variant, which is currently in place until March 31st, although there are some exceptions such as for people who live in Sweden. The Public Health Agency has also asked all travellers arriving from overseas, regardless of the country they travelled to, to isolate and avoid close contacts for at least seven days after arriving, as well as to get two tests (one before travel or on the day of arrival, and another five days after arriving). Across the country, 1,378 people are being treated in hospital for Covid-19, 256 of them with ventilators in intensive care. The National Board of Health and Welfare’s acting head of crisis preparedness, Taha Alexandersson, said that over the past year, 80 percent of requests from regions for help from the agency had been met, which included for example requests for protective or technical equipment. Alexandersson said that four regions currently required assistance from other regions to handle the pressure on their intensive care wards, even if nationwide there was 22 percent available capacity.
did you support closing down the borders.... didn't think so. variants and outbreaks will be a problem for countries which do not close their borders. Sweden's neighbors did. Are you in favor of closing borders? Didn't thinks so. But... you did tell us Germany was the model. And Sweden which really is the model is still outperforming Germany.
The following I think are key information about Sweden from the above article... Sweden sees Merit in Face Mark Wearing Sweden Border Bans Sweden is still monitoring / measuring itself against one of its neighboring Scandinavian countries...Norway. In contrast, Finland still has its border closed to Sweden and Denmark is "monitoring" the travels of its citizens to Sweden and back. The uptick in Covid numbers the past week is probably the reason why Sweden has closed its border to Norway...specifically from its migrant workers. Not Mention in the Briefing Sweden has paused its use of the vaccine AstraZenaca. Following what the European Union has recently done the same. This does in fact impact Sweden's overall vaccination program. https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coron...y-to-stop-using-astrazeneca-vaccine-1.5348872 As stated many times, border closures is a very effective way to reduce the risk to Covid-19 especially for countries that did not lockdown. wrbtrader
Oooooh variants. WHY DONT YOU LOOK AT ANNUAL DEATHS IN SWEDEN AS A BETTER METRIC???? Very small increase in annual deaths, and virtually none when taking into account age, and per capita, and the fact that deaths were low in 2019. Sweden WAS the model before the fear porn activists got to it.
Wow... I don't follow Covid charts of Spain but did not realize Spain is doing so much better now...even better than the Scandinavian countries. More and more confirmation that Sweden itself does in fact compare its Covid performance numbers to other Scandinavian countries and to some of the countries in the European Union. wrbtrader
While cases could turn into a issue. (so there could be an increase in deaths in the future) The metric we have been using is Covid deaths per million. On that metric... Sweden still doing well although the UKs trend down just overtook Sweden on Covid deaths per million. https://ourworldindata.org/explorer...e&country=SWE~DEU~ESP~BEL~CAN~FRA~GRC~GBR~USA
