Mask wearing in Asia is not ubiquitous but just more prevalent than in the west.
Masks clearly aren’t the reason for covid not spreading in Asia.

Food for thought - India and Norway have the same covid deaths per capita.
If you believe that’s because of masks or social distancing - you don’t understand how viruses virus.

Japan still trying to do the Olympics will be a herculean task to control the new variants of Covid-19 that have hit the country.
The variants are nasty boogers...many countries are having problems with it and now Japan is putting a ton of effort to get their population vaccinated.

The main problem is that many countries can not move athletes to the top of the vaccination line so that they'll have complete vaccination by the Olympics...some countries have not even selected whom will be their Olympic athletes.

Also, I saw an interview today on BBC française with the person in charge of Japan Olympic committee...he states they are trying to get vaccinated herd immunity by the fall like South Korea is trying to do.

It was an odd comment from the guy as if Japan was competing against South Korea and the guy refer to South Korea as the model country including stating he was very surprise Europe and North America weren't doing what South Korea was doing against Covid-19.

Soon after that interview...there's another interview with someone from South Korea talking about their goal to achieve vaccinated herd immunity by September via having +70% of its population vaccinated.

I have a Japanese wife and lived in Japan for 12 years.
You see the occasional person wearing a mask - not more than that.

  5. Japan Appoints "Minister Of Loneliness" After Disturbing Rise In 'Social Distancing Era' Suicides

The most recent numbers cited in Japanese media reports say that 879 women killed themselves in the country during the month of October, a figure that marks a whopping 70% increase compared to the same month from 2019. Officials have noted that the pandemic and oftentimes mandated social distancing measures have appeared to have a harsher impact on women.

According to Japan Times, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga earlier in the month appointed as the new Minister of Loneliness a 70-year old veteran politician named Tetsushi Sakamoto. It is a cabinet level position which aims to alleviate social isolation among citizens.

He'll head up an 'emergency taskforce' to battle the disturbing spike in suicides nationally as his first order of business. "With isolation tied to an array of social woes such as suicide, poverty and hikikomori (social recluses), the Cabinet Office also established a task force Friday that seeks to address the problem of loneliness across various ministries, including by investigating its impact," Japan Times writes.

"According to preliminary figures released by the National Police Agency, 20,919 people took their own lives in 2020, up 750 from the previous year and marking the first year-on-year increase in 11 years. The surge is largely attributed to a noticeable rise in suicides among women and young people," the report pointed out.

Japanese people seems more at ease or less intimidated by wearing a face mask in comparison to Americans. They seem to me to be on equal level as other Asian countries involving face mask wearing to prevent spreading Covid-19 to someone else nearby and to minimize the viral load in their cough, sneezing or talking.

And yet since March of last year every photo or video coming out of Japan shows everyone wearing a mask. A society focused on conformity works wonders on this front without mandates. Since Japan has dealt with diseases that have arrived out of China multiple times in the past - taking precautions by using a mask is not new to them.

I've posted videos last year of Tokyo, Japan...most people in the videos were wearing face masks (indoors and outdoors) but they seemed very at ease with face mask wearing, social distancing, a lot of hand washing, the intrusion of contact tracing if someone they knew had been traced to someone that was infected with Covid-19.

Yet, they seem to be dealing with Covid-19 better than anywhere else but have fears about a 3rd wave and the Olympics is a big concern to them. Regardless, most people are in fact wearing face masks as you noted of seeing in photos and videos.

The sad news is that suicides among Japanese Women has increased +80% since the start of the Pandemic.

Your latest error is to believe that just because I support a point someone makes that I support every point that person makes.

This is pure disingenuous behavior, and I wish I could say I'm surprised it comes from you.

Yet you continually pushing points from bloggers and others who promote demon-sperm, hydroxychloroquine, and bleach as medical remedies -- does not make the most current point you push from these clowns very credible.
