The ignorance of GWB-Trading comes shining through. According the Johns Hopkins Taiwan most certainly has had cases in the last 200 days. If you are really scared barricade yourself in yourself in your house like a coward. There is no reason for the rest of the population to be forced to stay home because your are scared.
Good luck with — show your proof. At the same time go do a search and view all the recent headlines about Taiwan not having a case for 200 days. Or simply find the article I posted in ET.
Every person in Taiwan has a health card with a unique ID that all doctors and hospitals use to access online medical records But I'll bet you are against a Voter ID card, too onerous and all that, right?
I'm very impressed with how Taiwan converted geo-fencing technology for use in a healthcare crisis. Their low numbers are excellent especially when much of the world is increasing very fast and in some places...exponentially on some days of infections / hospitalizations. Sadly, the United States is way behind the curve on Geo-Fencing technology in a healthcare crisis. In fact, I didn't know Taiwan are doing so well until I was channel surfing TV and some woman on TV (U.S. news journalist) stated they have some of the best Covid-19 results and that she's very close to the Taiwan people...her family use to live there or she was born there. Thus, it was Taiwan that cause me to look at the other top performers in their Covid-19 response and performance...Sweden didn't make the list. Regardless, Taiwan is another Asian country with excellent response to Epidemics and Pandemics because they had a Pandemic plan and infrastructure designed to manage it. Simply, they did not go around saying its a hoax with a population (culture) that understands the importance of face mask wearing, testing and contact tracking. https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/29/asia/taiwan-covid-19-intl-hnk/index.html Someone must be an idiot to debate or criticize the below results. Look at the image below...all those people on public transportation wearing face masks...going to work, school or whatever. Simply, they were prepared soon after the outbreak in China...Taiwan infrastructure kicked into action as early as December 31st via checking passengers on flights from China via health checks... Not some stupid questionnaire that was used by the United States and Canada almost 2 months later and then North America banned flights almost a month later on January 31st while leaving the backdoor wide open for Europe to travel to U.S. major airports until March 11th. Yet, people keep saying the United States / Canada responded quickly. In my opinion just via the dates above about the so called "response"...it was comedy hour and will most likely cost many their jobs in the U.S. Elections. Simply, if the government doesn't do its job properly in a healthcare crisis...the population will become revolutionary (social unrest) in reacting to any Lockdowns or strong restrictions. By the way, Lockdowns worked very well in many countries in Europe and North America. In contrast, the Re-Openings failed horribly...poor planning and too many people not willing to continue following the health guidelines. ------- This is not what was predicted by early risk assessments that identified Taiwan among the most likely to see a rapid spread of the virus due to its proximity to China, where hundreds of thousands of Taiwanese work, and considering the extensive travel across the Taiwan Strait. To make matters worse, the virus appeared just before the Lunar New Year, when thousands of Taiwanese were heading home from China to spend the holiday with family. Several reasons have been cited for Taiwan's success in limiting the coronavirus' impact despite obvious disadvantages. Perhaps foremost among them is preparation. Following the 2003 epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome, which killed 73 in Taiwan, the highest number outside China and Hong Kong, the government passed legislation to facilitate a more effective response to future outbreaks. Notably, the National Health Command Center was established to coordinate efforts in a variety of rapid onset scenarios like the one that now threatens. In a recent interview, Taiwan's Vice President Chen Chien-jen, an epidemiologist by training and health minister during the SARS crisis, identified key elements of the program to include transparency, information sharing, staffing agencies with relevant experts, interagency cooperation and coordinating the efforts of government labs with hospitals and other medical facilities across the island. Infrastructure developed by the NHCC enabled a remarkably quick response to initial reports from Wuhan, with Taiwanese health officials boarding flights from the region as early as Dec. 31 to check passengers for symptoms. wrbtrader
As a reminder --- because you never look up anything yourself -- nor do you ever provide proof of your absurd assertions. No covid cases in 200 days: This country is now the world's envy https://www.livemint.com/news/world...y-is-now-the-world-s-envy-11603955280543.html While many countries around the world are hitting new highs in coronavirus cases, Taiwan has achieved a different kind of record -- 200 days without a locally transmitted case. Taiwan holds the world’s best virus record by far and reached the new landmark on Thursday, even as the pathogen explodes anew in Europe and the U.S. Taiwan’s last local case came on April 12; there has been no second wave. What did this island of 23 million people do right? It has had 553 confirmed cases, with only seven deaths. Experts say closing borders early and tightly regulating travel have gone a long way toward fighting the virus. Other factors include rigorous contact tracing, technology-enforced quarantine and widespread mask wearing. Further, Taiwan’s deadly experience with SARS has scared people into compliance. “Taiwan is the only major country that has so far been able to keep community transmission of Covid eliminated," said Peter Collignon, an infectious disease physician and professor at the Australian National University Medical School. Taiwan “probably had the best result around the world," he said, and it’s “even more impressive" for an economy with a population about the same size as Australia’s, with many people living close to one another in apartments. Taiwan will likely be among the few economies to grow this year, with the government in August forecasting that the gross domestic product will expand 1.56% in 2020. Still, Taiwan isn’t out of the woods yet. The government confirmed three more imported cases Thursday, from the Philippines, U.S. and Indonesia, and in the past two weeks has recorded more than 20 imported cases. Also, others that fought the virus well initially, like Singapore and Japan, later had spikes in cases. What countries with surging infections can take away from Taiwan’s experience is that nothing works without contact tracing those who have tested positive and then quarantining them, said Chen Chien-jen, Taiwan’s former vice president and an epidemiologist, in an interview. Also, as it’s not easy to make people stay in quarantine, Taiwan has taken steps to provide meal and grocery delivery and even some friendly contact via Line Bot, a robot that texts and chats. There is also punishment -- those who break quarantine face fines of up to NT$1million ($35,000). Here is how Taiwan has achieved its milestone: Border Control Taiwan began shutting down to non-residents shortly after the pandemic broke out in January and has kept tight control over its borders since. “Taiwan’s continual success is due to strict enforcement of border control," says Jason Wang, director of Stanford University’s Center for Policy, Outcomes and Prevention. That includes symptom-based surveillance before travelers board flights and digital fence tracking via cellular signals to ensure their compliance with a 14-day quarantine, he said. Masks, Distribution The decision to stockpile and have central distribution of face masks played a key role in Taiwan’s success. The government early in the pandemic stockpiled all domestically produced face masks and banned export. Within four months, companies increased production from 2 million to 20 million units a day, enabling the island to ration masks to residents on a regular basis. Contact Tracing, Quarantine Taiwan has world-class contact tracing -- on average, linking 20 to 30 contacts to each confirmed case. In extreme situations, such as that of a worker at a Taipei City hostess club who contracted the virus, the government tracked down as many as 150 contacts. Then, all contacts must undergo a 14-day home quarantine, even if they test negative. So far, about 340,000 people have been under home quarantine, with fewer than 1,000 fined for breaking it. That means 99.7% have complied, according to Chen. “We sacrificed 14 days of 340,000 people in exchange for normal lives for 23 million people," Chen said. SARS Experience The painful lessons of past epidemics paved the way of Taiwan’s success in fighting Covid. It began building an emergency-response network for containing infectious diseases after its experience with SARS in 2003, when hundreds became ill and at least 73 died, for the world’s third-highest infection rate. Taiwan later experienced pandemics like bird flu and influenza H1N1. As a result, its residents are acutely aware of disease-fighting habits like hand-washing and mask wearing.
gwb-trading, That's one of the key variables for the countries with excellent Covid-19 performance...those that Lockdown and those that did not Lockdown..... Mandates for Face Mask Wear although other variables are key too such as having a population (culture) that follows the health guidelines after re-opening from any restrictions or lockdowns. They were able to keep their economy and schools open most of the time so far during the Pandemic...that's impressive and not many people are bitching about wearing a face mask. Look at France, doing very poorly with Covid-19. A country (my country of birth) is revolutionary against restrictions of any kind...its in our DNA to be as such. Reason why there's a big problem there. wrbtrader
What do New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan all have in common? It should be obvious to rational people. All of these countries had previous experience with SARS and other epidemics that came out China. Due to their previous experiences -- these countries were all well prepared to handle a novel pandemic using the best public health practices. They also already had Contact Tracing, Testing, and other public health infrastructure already in place prior to COVID.
The first option is also likely due to the lengthy absence that he/she took during the last year or so and then only came back when Kung Flu arrived. I suspect the initial contract to pay him/her ran out and then was renewed recently. Thus, the return and massive cut n' paste false postings.
I lived in South Korea for a few years many years ago. Even then, wearing face mask was common for much of the population due to the pollution problems. In Seoul...its a fashion statement. I knew at the start of the Pandemic that South Korea and other countries that they would have a very quick / attack on Covid-19 and then have ongoing good performance while the rest of the world bitches & whine about face mask wear, no large crowd gatherings (super spreader events) and so on. The other critical variable...these are countries that took Covid-19 very seriously back in late December 2019 to early January 2020. They didn't play politics with a health crisis...it was not a hoax to them. wrbtrader
