If Sweden's "no lockdown" approach was so successful then would they need to dedicate additional funding to COVID?
I can not find my old post about the economic costs (objectives of the No Lockdown policy) was to not to increase their budget to fight Covid-19. Sweden has like 6 or 7 objectives and now with this 1.12 billion dollar increase to cover healthcare costs for Covid-19... That's the 3rd objective not reached as in failure for the No Lockdown policy. Increasing Infections (1) results in Increasing Hospitalization (2) results in Increasing Deaths (3) Obviously the increase in the healthcare budget for Covid-19 implies Sweden understands the above link in which Sweden will try to break it in the first two sections to prevent any dramatic increase in the number of deaths. Simply, their number of deaths are still low and they will probably do what it takes to keep those numbers low although other countries that also had a "no lockdown policy" has death numbers / infection numbers much more less than Sweden. wrbtrader
But for months the "natural herd immunity" advocates have been telling us that Sweden would have decreasing cases, no hospitalizations, and no deaths because they have reached 'herd immunity"..... and all the other countries should follow their example.
not me... a month or so ago... I said that infections may blip up but they were done dying to this virus. at the moment they still have very low deaths and low ICU usage. although both are moving up a small amount at the moment... which is not good. I am also a bit concerned that there was a report there is a new version of Covid spreading through Europe which recently started in Spain. If that is the case... then we may have to rebuild immunity to some degree. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/09f821667ce64bf7be6f9f87457ed9aa
Sweden itself admitted early in the summer that they do not have herd immunity although those (several people here at ET) outside of Sweden that do not live there continue pointing to a city (I think Stockholm) in which some individuals had antibodies after recovering from Covid-19 along with the declining infections / deaths eventhough there's still no vaccine. In fact, they openly dismissed the importance of a vaccine for herd immunity. Same people here at ET that stated two months ago that the United States had achieved Herd Immunity...not easy to forget that episode of crazy support for Sweden via the United States achieving herd immunity. Oh wait, they bragged that Sweden had no restrictions too...another comedy hour. Also, they still ignore the fact that Sweden had a "Lockdown Lite"...a policy Sweden health officials coined themselves in which there were restrictions but they were preparing to use "targeted lockdowns" if needed. Thus, you know whom I'm talking about...those here that continue using the phrase No Lockdown. All the b.s. by people here that do not live in Sweden while wishing their government would change their healthcare system in a Pandemic at a time when Trump was trying to bury Obamacare without a replacement healthcare plan. It took me about a month to realize they really wanted Trump to switch the entire United States healthcare plan to mimic that of Sweden in the middle of a Pandemic without any congressional approval. For awhile, I thought I was listening to people from The Shining... wrbtrader
Because no one is immune to the effects of COVID on the economy? The right way to do this would be to see what Sweden is spending as a % of GDP against other European countries as a % of GDP. Or you can just make shit up as usual by saying this is because its so bad in Sweden, and then failing to prove that.
