You seem to be doing a wonderful job in explaining the differences on your own. Simply, I don't have to give you any specific that you can easily look up on your own via Google but I have given you a few links in the recent past including one more in my most recent message post. You only need to read the differences. It's simple, the difference in the response to Covid-19 is integrated with the type of healthcare system, difference in government leadership and social disparities. The latter you should understand very well considering you're living in California...more so than someone living in Wyoming or U.S. Virgin Islands. wrbtrader
Let's take a look at what a winner looks like... Covid 19 coronavirus: World Health Organisation highlights New Zealand's pandemic success https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid...-pandemic-success/53CLYYJI6LUBMW5GVWYUEQGLWM/ The World Health Organisation (WHO) has highlighted the steps New Zealand took to eliminate Covid-19 within its community. In a four-minute video posted on social media, the WHO details how the country went from its first case of coronavirus, on February 28, to the peak of daily new cases at 89, to successfully eliminating the virus within a matter of months. The video singles out New Zealand's plan, including the strict lockdown measures, the isolation of any positive cases and close contacts, as well as the country's contact tracing method. It features footage from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's addresses to the nation, including the level 4 lockdown announcement, as well as interviews with some of the country's top experts, including Dr Ashley Bloomfield. Eerie images of empty streets and roads play out to the background of Ardern detailing the lockdown measures in the video, taking viewers back to a time no one ever imagined having to live through. The video then shows Bloomfield's 1pm presser on May 21, where he announces there are no new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand. The WHO singles out the clarity of New Zealand's messaging to the population, with the different Covid announcements across all media. On June 8, 2020, New Zealand became officially Covid-19 free. The WHO video replays the moment Ardern made the announcement, admitting she had done "a little dance" when she'd heard the news. According to the WHO, New Zealand acted quickly and followed the organisation's guidance around isolation and contact tracing, all of which were key in eliminating the virus. While Covid-19 numbers continue to rise across the world, with many countries seeing big resurgences and recording thousands of daily new cases, breaking grim new records every day, New Zealand continues to tackle small numbers of the virus, with mandatory quarantine for anyone who arrives in the country. The head of the United Nations Antonio Guterres today said that the Covid-19 pandemic "is the greatest crisis of our age". In an online session of the World Health Summit, Guterres made a call for worldwide solidarity in the global crisis and demanded that developed countries support health systems in countries that are short of resources. "No one is safe from Covid-19. No one is safe until we are all safe from it," said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the summit. "Even those who conquer the virus within their own borders remain prisoners within these borders until it is conquered everywhere." More than 42 million have been infected with the virus and over 1 million people have died of Covid worldwide. Yesterday New Zealand recorded no community cases and just one case in managed isolation. Across the world, there were more than half a million new coronavirus infections recorded in a 24-hour period this weekend.
New Zealand's 4% unemployment rate masks a deeper Covid hit to the labour market https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...masks-a-deeper-covid-hit-to-the-labour-market Many workers across the economy stayed employed, in large part due to the wage subsidy, but were working fewer hours than they had previously. If there was available work, these staff would have worked for longer. What resulted was the largest quarterly fall in earnings – hitting families in the back pocket.
New Zealand economy in deepest recession as second quarter GDP shrinks https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mar...ion-as-second-quarter-gdp-shrinks/ar-BB197jYa Gross domestic product contracted a seasonally adjusted 12.2% quarter-on-quarter, its sharpest quarterly contraction on record and largely in line with forecasts of a 12.8% decline from economists polled by Reuters. GDP fell 12.4% year-on-year.
Sweden’s second-quarter GDP fall was its worst in modern history — but outperformed many in Europe https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/05/swe...p-fall-still-outperformed-some-in-europe.html Sweden’s gross domestic product (GDP) tumbled 8.6% in the second quarter of the year. “Nonetheless, the economic crunch over the first half of the year was in a different league entirely to the horror shows in southern Europe,” he added.
And yet in the 3rd and 4th quarter the economy of New Zealand is entirely open since they eliminated COVID-19 --- the sole exception being a short period of days when incoming passengers brought COVID into the country because they did not quarantine. Let's read some information from the article: The GDP data confirms New Zealand's worst recession, defined as two straight quarters of contraction, since 2010, with GDP in the March quarter falling 1.6%. In comparison, second quarter economic growth in neighbouring Australia which enforced a less stringent COVID-19 lockdown fell 7.0%, while the United States recorded a 9.1% drop. But economists say New Zealand will bounce back faster, while other nations are still struggling to contain the coronavirus. "We expect the June quarter’s record-breaking GDP decline to be followed by a record-breaking rise in the September quarter," said Westpac Senior Economist Michael Gordon.
I don't understand what GWB thinks he is doing. We know our shutdown failed. We know most of Europe's lockdowns failed.. as they are hitting new peaks in virus. Did New Zealand conquer the virus... well I don't know... what happens when they open up to travel with the rest of the world. We are not an island we did not close the borders. Right now many of GWB's favorite countries who followed his beloved shutdown model... are hitting new highs in virus. They don't want to lockdown again, but they are concerned about hospitals getting overwhelmed. That is the proper lockdown criteria. I think every country in the world who locked down hard now realizes locking down the low risk when you have the hospital capacity does grave damage and should be avoided. Its a shame we had to do all that damage unnecessarily. Right now its a balancing act in many countries... lets hope they don't have to go to heavy lockdown again. Let's hope they reach herd immunity soon.
---and very few are learning anything from it. Turns out, lock-downs are just vehicles for power grabs.---
The re-opens failed...many did not follow the guidelines by their health officials. Thus, the lockdown or lockdown lite were successful. Regardless, people (the citizens) didn't want to co-operate such as no mask wearing, no social distancing (large gatherings) and no hand washing. This fact is shown with the few countries that lockdown and re-open properly...their numbers Covid-19 are low per capitol. Within North America...schools that follow the health officials guidelines have fair much better than schools that have not follow the health officials guidelines. Further, as someone else pointed out to you (you seem to ignored the comment)... Some countries re-open in phases. The first phases of re-opening were highly successful. It wasn't until the final phase that large gatherings and ignoring health guidelines begin to occur. This is when the infections and hospitalizations begin the rise very fast. In some places, it begin to rise exponentially for several days or weeks. Wearing a face mask in public space doesn't cause job loss Social Distance in public space doesn't take away the fun of the event Washing Hands...do such before / after meals, after leaving areas of knowing someone in that area is infected...things we all learned since being a toddler when we were exposed to someone with a cold, flu, gastro-infection, pneumonia...whatever. The current Covid-19 performance... You reap what you sow. wrbtrader
