He's not interested in the truth and nothing he posts seems to have an impact on where he lives or the restrictions he faces. It's just a never ending gripe session with him where he criticizes "leftists" ( wonder what the people of Sweden believe in ? ), the US Fed, the medical establishment ( almost everywhere ), etc etc. He leans into conspiracy theories far too much. His understanding of data is brutally bad. Of course, he let it slip that he has a B. of Arts making him a layman in this area. By normal standards ( academic and career wise ), I am far more qualified then he is to do data analysis work. However, he thinks he's an expert far more then I would ever claim despite having some real credentials ( I have been paid on a contract basis to do IT work in this area ). The interesting part is the people of Sweden seem far less inspired and confident in their countries approach then some of these eccentric fans in the US. I don't see the point of it; just seems like nonstop griping. Don't take away Jem's beach time he'll get cranky and post about on the internet. Imagine how he'd react if a family member died die to Covid ?
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada You reached 4000 cases just a few days ago... Cases are higher now than when I first said cases were exploding... Look at the chart moron. Plus, You have far exceeded the pre lockdown infection level, so if fair to say cases are exploding. 2. California has screwed up also. Lockdowns failed...(after the first few weeks.) Its a very stupid idea to have a general lock down of the low risk.
The chart shows 4000 cases the day after 900 cases and followed by numbers around 2000-3000. It's not hard to understand where that 4000 number may have come from. These reports are subject to inefficiencies in timing. Did we really "reach" 4000 cases ? Did we "reach" 90 deaths a day like you pointed out the other day ? You might want to actually see some sustained data before you start making conclusions and use exaggerated terms to describe what is going on. California had weeks and weeks of 80-100+ deaths a day this summer. Florida was much worse and they were more "open".
Look at the graphs Look at the 7 day moving average its going up sharply still. Your cases far exceed your pre shutdown levels.... I first told you cases were exploding on September 25th... your 7 day average was...1220 Today, its almost double. (could be double when they get done filling in the data over the next few days.) Any way you slice it... your infections are exploding. Now... if you called Canada out they way you called out Americans, you would be saying this is happening because people in Canada are irresponsible. That is not what I think... but you are such a selfish judgmental leftist, I feel the need to give you a mirror.
Glad you mention how people feel...people that actually live in Sweden. Swedish Health Officials and the Government did a survey about their Response to Covid-19...the chart below is a few months old. Thus, haven't found any updated chart here in October which would be interesting now that Sweden has been involved in border bans by other countries and Swedish people have had more targeted bans / restrictions / measures...three words used coming out of Sweden but they won't use the word lockdown eventhough they coined the term "lockdown lite". There's another chart that I posted earlier than the below chart...it shows that Sweden's citizen not as content. Simply, the below chart shows them LESS positive in comparison to the first chart. The key for me is that I don't know what's causing the changes in the opinion of the Swedish people about Sweden's Covid-19 policy...is it because there's more targeted restrictions, more border bans from neighbouring countries, less verification of herd immunity ??? Nothing is mention about the why each age group are becoming LESS positive. Seems to me whomever doing those surveys within Sweden know more info but intentionally not revealing the why behind the data. Regardless, there's a growing discontent regardless to the reason. .....Only two people told us they would like Sweden to introduce less strict measures, with 77.1 percent preferring stricter measures than those currently in place, and the remainder saying they felt Sweden had got the balance right. A common trend was that a large number of readers were choosing to follow stricter guidelines from their home countries. Several readers told The Local they felt more likely to move away from Sweden as a result of its handling of the crisis, with a few saying they planned to leave once the virus was over and international travel possible, and others already actively looking to relocate. "I am seriously considering leaving the country as soon as this pandemic is over. Communication between Swedish and international researchers could have been better," said Alexander, a German-Korean citizen working in academia. "There were many international researchers asking for more information on why the Swedish response is different from the rest of Europe, and replies from some Swedish colleagues dismissed concerns and deviating opinions as 'propaganda' or 'mis-information'. This is no way to treat those colleagues who have loved ones in countries worst hit by this pandemic right now, and who fear that the same will very soon happen in Sweden as well, because of an arrogant/ignorant/naive response by the government. But others said their opinions of Sweden had improved due to the reaction to the virus. "I trust more the authorities than before, particularly after reading reports from public health experts such as the World Health Organisations, press conferences from Singapore and Korea, and scientific journals. It's not the most ideal solution but it's the most logical," said an Indonesian reader who moved to Sweden in 2016. "My view of Sweden changed positively. I like the lack of political decisions in Sweden. It's expert-driven," said Mischa, who works in Denmark but lives in Malmö. She added: "I tend to follow the Dutch guidelines, which are more strict." And while she was not alone in choosing to follow a stricter self-isolation than advised in Sweden, several readers said they thought the policies from their own country would not necessarily be applicable in Sweden. "I have decided I will follow the guidelines of the local government," commented Nishant, a student from India studying for a Masters in Public Health. "I have friends and family living in different parts of the world. I have recommended them to follow the guidelines of their local government. There cannot be a universal guideline to address this crisis as situations and conditions in every country differ so please do not try to copy others." " .......... After I read the above, I then found a more recent article that seems to be more informative and correlates with other articles that people that wear Face Masks gives them a false sense of security...leading to them not to do the other necessary things such as social distancing and hand washing. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/202...-s-lax-pandemic-policies-face-fierce-backlash By the way, I see the false sense of security here in Québec, Canada...the province that's giving Canada their recent bad statistics. People here in Québec still do the following while wearing a face mask... Hugging with friends / not from your household, face mask kiss on both cheeks, hand shake with bare hands, pull down the face masks to have normal conversation with friends or within public places indoor, still have parties, still letting people into their home to socialize that are not part of the family instead of doing the socialization outside and many other things. As I've stated many times...remove Québec from Canada's numbers...Canada will be one of the best performing countries. Yet, I'm very surprise with Ontario Province...not as bad as Québec but the culture is different. Then again, I believe the 10 largest populated cities in Canada...7 of those cities are within the provinces of Québec and Ontario. Therefore, easier spread of the infection because people are living in very dense communities. The good thing...we have very cold winters and people here enjoy outdoor winter activities along with less bars / cafe usage during the winter. Jem in error believes lockdown failed. Lockdowns worked until schools re-open. Therefore, its the re-opening that obviously failed and I didn't like how they were doing it here in Québec. I still remember teachers on the first day of school waiting outside at the entry door... To shake hands (bare hands) with students on the first day but everybody was wearing face masks. P.S. I told my young teenagers to not shake their hands...no matter who the person is...just politely say hello (Bonjour, Salut) and go inside. I filed a complaint immediately with the school board and the private school the same day. wrbtrader
Public health authorities in Sweden now to follow Europe and start introducing regional lockdowns after their no-lockdown policy proves to be a failure. The problem is that Sweden has no legal mechanism to enforce local lockdowns. Sweden 'to start lockdowns' as it has world's 12th highest Covid-19 death rate Health authorities in Sweden are poised to start introducing local lockdowns to stop a surge in new cases, it is claimed - although these will not be legally enforceable https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/sweden-to-start-lockdowns-worlds-22864690 Sweden is debating bringing in local lockdowns in a bid to halt the spread of Covid-19, according to reports - having resisted the measure for months The number of cases has risen dramatically in the past fortnight, with 970 confirmed on Thursday - the highest since June. The country's approach to the pandemic has been controversial, with businesses and schools staying open throughout, although citizens have been advised to observe social distancing rules. But according to the Johns Hopkins University, which measures worldwide data on the pandemic, the country now has the 12th highest death rate in the world, with 58.4 per 100,000 people. This is 10 times the figure in neighbouring Norway and Finland, although slightly lower than the UK's 64.1 per 100,000. Sweden, which has a population of just over 10 million, has recorded 5,918 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Now authorities are pushing for local lockdowns amid mounting questions over the country's approach. Johan Nojd, who heads the infectious diseases department in the city of Uppsala, told The Telegraph : "It's more of a lockdown situation - but a local lockdown." From tomorrow, health authorities are reportedly set to ask people to stay away from shopping centres, gyms, libraries and museums. Despite increasing urgency from health officials, these restrictions will not be legally enforceable, there will be no fines. Bitte Brastad, chief legal officer at Sweden's public health agency, described the move as "something in between regulations and recommendations". But experts warn it could be followed by further measures. Senior epidemiologist Anders Wallensten claimed the country has "some immunity as a consequence of how we have managed" but denied that "herd immunity" had always been the goal.
It's a one off but it'd higher then Ontario which Jem claims is "exploding" in cases and has a 50% higher population then all of Sweden. Current running deaths per million : USA 676, UK 641, Spain 722, Sweden 585, Canada 258. Based on that data, I have to wonder why some posters on here continue to insist that Canada's strategy failed and Sweden is a huge success. The long term care problem in Sweden is irrelevant on this point because Canada had the worst long term care stats on the planet in the first wave ( 81% of the first wave deaths in Canada were in long term care homes mostly privately run the government run facilities had less then ideal but much better numbers ). In terms of the hit to the economy, we are running better then the US in terms of job recovery and are forecast at +4% GDP in 2021. Our schools are for the most part fully open. New restrictions are on indoor dining, gyms, and cinemas which have been open for 2+ months.
You and your slanted bullshit articles are focusing on deaths overall because most of Sweden's deaths happened before Sweden locked down old folks homes. But what is happening now? Canada has 10 times as many deaths per day as Sweden (per the 7 day moving average) UK is at 60 times Spain is at 60 USA is at 350 times... You are free do the math for the rate... its easy because Sweden has about 10 million people. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/sweden/ https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/spain https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/ https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
Ontario a province of 15 million put on limited restrictions last week to try to curb the increase in infections. Some thought they were two weeks too late and we'd spike up for weeks. However, it's not what happened. We capped around 680-820 cases a day for quite a few days now. Which means with the targeted restrictions we likely ( not certain yet ) stemmed the rise in infections at levels below many US levels. If that's "exploding" to you, you aren't understanding the data at all. If we double from here and sustain for a month, then you can talk. However, if this occurs, I expect the US will again be hit even worse. Again. if this occurs, as it did in first wave, it's a testament to the success of targeted restrictions and use of staged openness. Not a failure at all as you keep falsely claiming. Last I heard, almost all schools remain fully open in Ontario ( it's not relevant in my life ). All we've closed is indoor dining, gyms, and cinemas in addition to caps on large indoor gatherings that never went away. No Trump style super spreader events. Trump is actually back to denying the need of Americans to use basic safety precautions; those are insane ideas. His base in Iowa was packing in a crowd to see him, many mask less.
Jem's problem is that he's unable to understand that schools in other countries are re-open fully but then pretend via replying as if someone is talking about his state (California). Also, same here in Québec...schools re-open fully except for a few that need to close for 1 week to disinfect after an outbreak. Of the latter, I've only heard about 3 specific schools here in Québec, Canada that closed temporary for disinfection. This has been done in the past 10 years for other outbreaks of infections....e.g. Pneumonia and Meningitis. In fact, since school re-open for the fall...my kids have been in school full-time even while infections are rising dramatically here in Québec...face mask wearing required (not an option). Yet, people are less afraid, more mad towards the Covid-19 idiots but not panicking although Halloween (door to door trick or treat) is cancelled. Some families have schedule virtual hunted houses for Halloween...I'm holding one myself for neighbourhood families and family in the United States. Only thing different is that more parents are driving and picking up their kids from school instead of letting them take the school buses. Unfortunately, we know about that slingshot effect between United States and Canada... What happens in the United States will soon happen in Canada...I hope that doesn't happen this time because the U.S. is a roaring Covid-19 infection mess...like a wildfire. The good thing, borders still closed although I think they're reschedule to open on October 27th. They need to change that to November especially beyond the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. Another unfortunate situation, wealthy people in the United States have been using private jets to travel into Canada for non-essential reasons. The government has recently promise to crack down (stop) that during the border closure except for essential travel because there's been too many cases of the infection entering Canada via private travel. wrbtrader
