Not if it were your KID or FATHER or BROTHER...then the comparison would be right on the money... The Body count need not determine wether this WAR was in fact appropriate to wage or not....ONLY THE TRUTH.....and the TRUTH STINKS so far....peace
I'd say more accurate would be "Conservatives pay their own way. Liberals want everyone else to pay the bill for their moral superiority." Ever notice how lib's want membership to be mandatory in groups they control, like labor unions, student activity groups, bar associations, etc? I guess their obsession with "choice" stops when it might limit the amount of money they can get their hands on.
" The way your Daddy looked at it, that watch was your birthright. And he'd be damned if and slopeheads were gonna put their greasy yella hands on his boy's birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide somethin'. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of disentary, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you." Pulp Fiction Peace indeed my friend El Cubano. The alternative is unacceptable if it isn't in absolute self defense RS
HUH???? AAA this is not worthy of you. I expect better. I don't want you to drop out of first place as my favorite right winger...really, you and Hapaboy are my favorites. But you get the nod for quantity. But this post? Two demerits for quality. Now you and Hap are neck and neck. And Hap had a slight edge going in music-wise, so now the onus is on you!!! (BTW, I am thinking of getting behind Gen. Clark....but give me a little time...tough for me to endorse a military guy for President even though I like Ike in retrospect. And my son is in the Navy). Peace, RS
Hmmm, last I checked we were still operating in Afghanistan as well as Iraq, and that we had done a pretty good job of capturing the main Al Qaeda leadership (BL the exception....for now). Iraq posed no threat to us? A hostile nation with whom we had gone to war with before and who threatened the world's oil supply is not a threat? A tyrannical dictatorship that did NOT end its weapons programs as demanded in umpteen UN resolutions is not a threat to world peace? How has Bush compromised the security of the USA? By taking the fight to the enemy? How is this compromising our security? If you want to talk about compromising our security, how about Bill C.'s declining to take out Bin Laden when he had the chance? How about withdrawing from Somalia? How about the umpteen times previous administrations have made half-hearted attempts at intervention and then withdrawn as soon as we suffered a few casualties and the media started screaming "get our boys out of there!" Al Qaeda recruiting drive? That's a great one! The fanatics joining in the fighting in Iraq have always been fanatics; now they just have American targets conveniently much closer. We've been hated in the region for a long, long time, way before 9/11. If anything, new Al Qaeda recruits must have in the back of their minds that they're facing a USA that is actively going to hunt them down and kill them. Not only that, Saudi Arabia has gotten onboard (finally) after the bombings there and is going after them too. Pffaaahhh! All that was credible about us before was that we were very good at bowing to international pressure and would leave as soon as our hands got a little dirty. Bush II doesn't give a s**t about what the rest of the world thinks when it comes to striking at our enemies - and neither should you. Interesting. The Taliban was not instrumental in aiding Al Qaeda? Iran has not played a paramount role with other terrorist groups? Syria? Saudi Arabia? And let's not forget the PLO, an organization funded with the largesse of, ahem, sympathetic Arab STATES. And what's this about "moral legitimacy"? You have got to be kidding. In the eyes of the world, the US can do no right at all. It's a Catch-22. A region is embroiled in turmoil, the world oohs and aahs and says "to bad, so sad. We can't do crap, so why doesn't the US do anything?" And when the US finally does intervene, the world (and our media) can't wait to call us a bully, interventionist, blah, blah, blah, just give us some money and get the hell out, thank you very much. Yawn. I guess you didn't get the memo that "quagmire" became a non-grata word quite a long time ago. If we're still there a decade from now, have suffered tens of thousands of casualties, and the Baathists are controlling the majority of the country, THEN you can call it a "quagmire." This is a bad thing?!? Would you prefer we were still fighing the Cold War, both sides poised to launch nukes? Easter Europe ruled by the Ceaucescus of the world? What a ridiculous statement. Last time I checked, soldiers/sailors/Marines/airmen are in the business of war. That is their job. And now you're upset that the government wants them to go to work? What, you thought all that college fund money, cheap PX/commissary prices and all the other benefits come without an occasional demand for something in return? And, oh yeah, they VOLUNTEERED. Yes, of course the wise alternative would be a new administration that would yank us out of Iraq, withdraw from the international scene, and ask the Bin Ladens of the world to pretty please just leave us alone. Just amazing. 9/11 didn't wake you up to the fact that the world is a very UNSTABLE place? That fanatics out there want to kill Americans on a mass scale?!? Haven't we learned yet that when we let the world get too unstable without confronting the problem that we end up getting bit in the ass? And geez Louise, since when has our country turned into a society of stormtroopers knocking down our doors and dragging us away to be tortured and shot? How have your civil rights been violated? Be specific. It would be nice if, for once, the anti-Bush crowd could come up with something other than "Bush is bad" and piss their assinine statements into a headwind. What, TigerO, would you propose the US do to enhance its security? What is your solution for the terrorists of this world and the states that support them? Do you even have an idea, or does it bother you that, for once, there's a man in the White House who's a realist and is willing to sacrifice his political future to do what he can to ensure the survival of this country?
Pentagon offers 'bioterror kit' online Julian Borger in Washington Wednesday October 8, 2003 The Pentagon has been selling surplus laboratory equipment that could be used to make biological or chemical weapons, according to a congressional investigation released yesterday. Defence officials were called in to answer questions before a congressional inquiry about the sale of the army surplus, which included centrifuges, evaporators, bacteriological incubators, and protective suits to unknown customers in other countries, including Egypt and the Philippines, where terrorist groups have been known to operate. The news is particularly embarrassing, coming only days after the CIA-led Iraq Survey Group claimed the discovery of similar equipment in Iraq was evidence that the Saddam Hussein regime had a covert weapons programme. "The cheap, virtually unregulated availability of low-cost biological laboratory equipment poses a risk to national security," said Christopher Shays, the Republican congressman chairing the inquiry. "The department of defence should not be a discount shopping outlet for would-be bioterrorists." The Pentagon's sale of the surplus equipment was uncovered by Congress's general accounting office (GAO) which conducted a sting operation, setting up a dummy company to buy laboratory equipment online on a Pentagon website. The GAO found that the defence department did not check the background of its customers. Most of the equipment being sold was available commercially but the Pentagon was selling it at bargain prices. The GAO bought $46,000 (£27,500) worth of equipment for just over $4,000 (£2,400). A Pentagon spokesman said sales had been stopped pending the outcome of the inquiry.
You will never get into any position of leadership where hard decisions have to be made. You aren't suited for it. You are however, qualified for sitting on the sidelines throwing shit at people, thing is I can go to the zoo and watch apes do that and it's more fun.
RS/Error, Greetings and salutations, my favorite left-winger! In order to preserve my hallowed rank as one of your "favorite right-wingers", I'd like to let you know that if you haven't found that Steve Howe "Mood for a Day" acoustical guitar masterpiece yet, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll get it to ya. As for Gen. Clark, well, he's turning out to be a hypocrite politician like all of 'em, but I can understand your position with your son being in the Navy and all. How's his sub training going? Peace, H
Hap, good to see ya...been a while. And no, I haven't been able to find "Mood", so I will pm you my email. I have since changed my mind about Clark. Read more about him. (Just the cover article from 9/29 Newsweek), but unless he makes a better impression than Newsweek made, I am without a candidate. I DO know who I will vote AGAINST!! Son's great, thanks. Starts classes next Wednesday at the Nuke school in Charleston. But his new plan is to never actually become a Nuke.....he wants to finish his BS at Annapolis, then flight school and then "Top Gun" program. Which is fine with me, 'cause it means he will be safely in school for about 8 years. If after that time, he is in harms way (war conditions), then the chances are we all will be. So again, with even more personal motive than previously, I say to you, my friend, PEACE!!!! RS
