Senators Challenge Pres. Obama on Rumors of Executive Order Amnesty
Monday, June 21, 2010, 4:58 PM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA

    DHS Sec. Janet Napolitano
Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation's 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can't secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can't be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Here is the text of the letter signed by Sens. Grassley, Hatch (R-Utah), Vitter (R-La.), Bunning (R-Ky.), Chambliss (R-Ga.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Inhofe (R-Okla.), and Cochran (R-Miss.).

  3. No problem. Executive Orders - The President's tool for Quick Comprehensive Immigration Reform:

New York - June 13, 2010 - Can an Executive Order provide immediate relief to certain Draconian provisions of the current immigration laws even while waiting for a comprehensive immigration reform? Let's take a close look at an Executive Order and it's power.

This January, President Barrack Obama addressing action taken by the Senate, stated that he would proceed with plans to create a commission to reduce the federal budget deficit. “Yesterday, the Senate blocked a bill that would have created this commission. So I will issue an executive order that will allow us to go forward, because I refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of Americans.”

[...]If Congress is unable or unwilling to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform this year, the President could issue sections of its content as a series of Executive Orders. Thereby providing immediate relief form the sections of the immigration laws that are creating the most problems. The Senate conservatives would find difficulty in blocking these orders as 2/3 majority would have to vote against it; which is unlikely. The Executive Orders could be challenged in court, but that would take a very long time, and in the meantime, (enough relief would be given to the 12 million illegal immigrants in this country until a Comprehensive Immigration bill is finally made into law).

  4. Yeah, hopefully the border states are all going to pass Arizona style laws. They can now effectively gaurd the borders, and most all the illegals will be gone by the time the laws are made. If they are smart, that's what they will do.

  5. Obama has shown a callous disregard for following the law, whether it is bankruptcy law in the case of the auto bailout/takeover, environmental law in the case of EPS mandating carbon limits, tort law in the case of the BP slush fund or now immigration law. It's bad enough the government is not enforcing the law or protecting the border. Now he wants to gut the law with an edict, hugo chavez-style?

Perhaps deliberately, he is setting up a constitutional confrontation, either with the states or with congress if the republicans can manage to get control. Either way, I expect to see riots, tanks in the streets and stolen elections in the near future.
