Just for the record, nobody bashed immigrants, in general.

The discussion is about illegals. They take American jobs. And they're a net drain on the taxpayer. Those are just facts.

  4. You don't get it dumbfuck, it's ALREADY over. Write that in your little diary, so you don't waste your time regurgitating these little diatribes.

Do you think this is 1990? Maybe back then, this academic argument of yours had some merit, it don't mean jackshit now.

But I forgot, I'm Forest, while you are some cutting edge, visionary, who thinks this utopian vision of yours will save the planet.

  5. Wow, lots of vitriol in this thread.

The obvious answer is simply to NOT empower the government to price fix wages above actual market rates thereby ending the distortion of everything and everyone's motivations. A necessary counterpart will be to stop providing any kind of "free" benefits to anyone *legal or illegal* at the expense of tax payers. End, once and for all, the expectation that it is possible to get an easy ride here and the problem is solved.

I was wondering about unemployment today on my way home. Most of this thread has concentrated on the low end of the wage scale--but what about the higher wage jobs?

There are many, many Asians (India, China, etc.) employed here legally who do technical jobs. All employers of technically or mathematically or scientifically skilled workers say they must bring people in from overseas because there are not enough Americans qualified for these jobs. It is definitely the case at my company. I wonder if the number of overseas workers who come here for these white collar jobs might almost equal the number of unemployed Americans. If so, then the problem is not really a jobs problem. It a distribution of qualified labor problem. It seems to me that Americans have failed to qualify themselves for desirable jobs. We like to bitch about our schools, but that is only an excuse. I went to bad schools, too, but I worked very hard to totally overcome those deficiencies and make something of myself. That is what America is about. You don't have to accept what is handed to you at birth--you have an opportunity to better yourself.

And I must agree with those here who have stated that the undesirable jobs for which the uneducated and unskilled qualify are held by immigrants because Americans don't want to do them. I have lived here for 8 years now. I receive at least one notice or knock on the door every week from someone who wants to cut my lawn or clean my house. None of them have names like Smith or Jones.

I had an amusing conversation with a guy who roofed my house. He was discussing the relative merits of hiring Mexicans vs. Brazilians for his crews. He laughed when I asked about Americans, explaining that he was willing to pay them, but none of them want to do such physically difficult labor.

Regarding the "Americans won't do those jobs" claim, do we see the expected evidence of this, namely such "dirty" jobs being advertised and no Americans showing up to apply?

  8. Why not start by cleaning up America's favorite past time... Baseball.
Bar all non natural born citizens from playing on a US based team and add teams in other countries to the league... Be a good litmus test

See where the dollars flow and every US team can equally enjoy the world champion successes of the cubbies.

I agree with all of that.

First, close the border. It's a national security threat exploited by terrorists, drug cartels, violent gangs, human traffickers, and illegals.

Second, enforce labor laws. Vigorously prosecute American business that hire illegals and fine them accordingly.

Third, have ICE round up all illegals in the US. Illegals are a net drain on Americas finances when it's on the verge of bankruptcy. California is already bankrupt for exactly that reason.

Forth, hold a national referendum on illegal labor. Let Americans decide if they want to compete with Mexican labor for their jobs. If they agree, issue work permits and let Mexicans enter through orderly legal channels. If not, tough shit. Let Mexicans and US employers that rely on them twist in the wind.

  10. Disagree. America doesn't have "enough jobs of any kind" to accommodate both our unemployed Americans and illegals. We need to round up all illegals and deport them. Then American unemployeds will take those jobs... if extended unemployment benefits are cut back.

We can't have it both ways... cheap illegal immigrant labor AND employment for Americans who have lost their jobs.

Our biggest problem on the jobs front is that people get to sit at home...parking their fat, lazy asses on the couch... watching Oprah/American Idol/Dancing With The Stars... on their government subsidized big screen TV, sitting in the living room of their government subsidized domicile (with government subsidized utility payments), snacking on their government subsidized food stamps.. and probably trolling for a chance to get laid with their government subsidized Viagra.... all waiting for that $80,000/year job with benefits to drop into their lap. All of that largess because they voted for the Democrats. Get the picture??
