Let's use Chicago. It's not an easy joint to return to. After the window of registration (I'd even be willing to give them a year to start to address that they have to leave) has passed, you can easily detain illegal folks on arrest. You can then look up the registered address to notify and detect whether or not you have a family to remove with them. The family must then report to court the next day or so for a relative release hearing. It is at that time the person, along with the family if necessary, will be given a court order to report to the deportation location to leave the country within 90 days. That is plenty of time to get their matters in order. I would even go as far to provide them an airline ticket to the deportation center for each family member. How? They can report to the court ticket center one week prior to the flight. They present their deportation order and they will be issued an e-ticket. ATA charges $89 one way to Texas, so charge the government. It will pay it. At the deportation location they can then be ushered over the border with the understanding that should they return illegally they will be treated as a criminal should, jail time with no early release as they have been warned!! As you put it, they are law abiding hard working folks who don't want to go to jail. This is the way to start to draw that hard line in the sand. It must be done one day anyway, so let's get started! It's an ugly task, but you gotta' do it.
did we mention it was 12 million people....think of the manpower and money needed to do what you are saying and to actually see it through ( round up wether thru peaceful means or thru force, deport and keep out ) ...we'd have to open up a new department in our government just to handle this....but hey i hear ya my man..thanks for the post ..peace
I know. We're looking at about $4.5 Billion or so to even remotely get this moving along. But it has to be done. Add another billion for administrative and a couple more for the border work. Cal it $10 billion annually and fund it for two years and I'll be satisfied that they are making a serious effort to get this done. Again, if we take them for their word, Mexicans want to do the right thing and we won't have to worry about at least half of them as they would do their registration duties. I don't think you need to round them up if they are sincere about being Americans. And after the registration term, you do what you have to do.
Same way we should be shipping you Fidel loving commies back to Habana. I fondly remember the "old Miami" where a corned beef on rye was easier to find than Pollo Tropical. And to imagine if we could rid Florida of all the Cuban chicks and return her to the glory days of old Jewish women sitting in their pajamas on those Ocean Drive verandas.. On second thought, SCRAP that idea.......
Anybody else see the reports of some Worker's Party organizers trying to register the illegals to vote during the protests? Think it was L.A. The people in L.A. haved moved to Mexico and they didn't even know it.
Hamlet, You making good point, However chinese have the choice to refuse a job, and the wages they are getting is inline with what everybody else is getting there. Here in the US, illegals have no choice, because of their status the opportunities for work are very rare, so they have to accept the first offer. When a mexican comes to the US with big dreams etc.. it is very hard, if not impossible, for them to go back with no money after having spent the few dollars left to get in this country. The dynamics of immigration are more complex; there is one solution which is to convince, by one way or another, the populations of those countries that they can have a better future staying at home rather than coming here, but when someone is here, forget it, he is not going back for anything; not because they have a higher standard of living but because they have big dreams and dreams keep people survive while dreaming!!!!! just my 2c
I disagree. The illegals I know go back at least once a year from dec to end of jan. The one's I know frame houses. The low man makes $15 an hour and the lead guy makes $20 an hour all cash. They work on average 60 hours a week. There are 10 guys in each crew. The guy running the crew has 3 crews of 10 like this. That is 1.5 mill a a year in payroll that never has taxes paid on it. 90% of the money is wired through western union back to mexico.
