watch for the google phone, Nexus One

goog is making efforts to monetize it's youtube property, and is trying to move into mobile ads. goog's recent acquistion of ad mob (think mobile ad network) is currently held up pending govt. scrutiny. in addition to mobile ads, goog's android platform for mobile is already here, and goog may also be moving into mobile hardware, aka "the google phone".

sources say the new device may be called Nexus One and is made by HTC. Distribution channels are a bit fuzzy....goog may have simultaneously sell a subsidized handset (through T mobile) and a they may sell a handset directly without any carrier.....this handset would be more expensive then one sold with a carrier but allows the user to choose the carrier (goog is negotiating with a few a carriers now).

if goog does sell a handset direct, check the url www.google/phone currently a 404 error but sources tell me that is the url to be used IF ( a big if...) goog does sell a handset directly.

    device details:
runs Android 2.1 atop a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 display, has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB). The phone is a T-Mobile device (meaning no 3G if you want to take it to AT&T)

time will tell......but my sources say they goog is working hard to deliver something in Jan...they don't want to be upstaged by aapl.

(remember that goog ceo had to step down from aapl BOD due to "conflict of interest", and had to step out of aapl BOD meetings whenever aapl mobile strategy was discussed.)

competition between appl and goog will heat up in 2010.

  3. Here's the first look at the Nexus One.

    http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/02/exclusive-google-nexus-one-hands-on-video-and-first-impressio/

Just like the iPhone (which everyone knows is not the greatest smartphone in the world but is good for people who like to play games and distract themselves with weird apps from the app store), Google's sales of this will depend in part on marketing; it doesn't look like the initial review makes it out to be a revolutionary device. Having said that, they're saying over at HoFo that the reviewer is an iPhone fanboy (just like our little resident iPhone fanboy fuckup rtd). Let's see how they do.

yeah, apparently it isn't any better then the iphone, and similar to the droid, but lighter and better looking. i bought a droid a few weeks ago (see hardware thread), i like it, but it is has a few quirks that still need to be worked out.

    uhm... 214.89 in afterhours trading.
my next target is 217... fibonacci wise...
but hey I'm too fine for such tiny gains.
sure I'm a little early with my short entry at 209.
but my target at 150 will surely make up for all those tiny gains I've missed

  6. Some of that might have been short-covering.

  7. Watching Bloomberg.

Their roving reporter outside Google HQ seems clueless but incredibly positive.

How much could the Nexus move GOOG?

It points to a new revenue stream which must be a good thing but how much will having "Google" on the box drive sales?

  10. If you realize that the rest of the world is getting online and opening new markets then you would know that shorting the two leaders would make no sense. 4g is capable of tv and internet and a whole lot more. Its not time for them to be shorted...

Too early. They should get 50% from here. APPL is 214. target is 350.
GOOG is 623 target is 800.00

Place your bets. If you have the balls to trade its a hell of a ride in between.
