Sounds good. Lol. Jail is a "great" place for people to sit. Overloaded case workers, aggressive and manipulative inmates, jaded or hostile guards. And that's because most crime is impulsive. A fair point. Should be a "checklist" item for judges.

Davis said during a November press conference that a small number of mostly young people were responsible for many of the shootings in the Bull City. A reduction in Durham’s jail population to help stem fight COVID-19 had also had an impact on the gun violence, Davis said. Many of the shootings in Durham were gang-related drive-by shootings, she added. The News & Observer asked to speak with Davis or deputy chiefs at the Durham Police Department for this story, but the department was unable to arrange a time for the interview. In response to the shootings, the City Council recently agreed to partner with and expand the county health department’s violence interruption and outreach program, Bull City United, The News & Observer reported. The program currently operates in Southside and McDougald Terrace, but the program could expand to Oxford Manor and Braggtown and an area encompassing Cornwallis Road. Tougher gun laws would lower crime and shootings. For red hats though minorities constitutional rights can be violated to lower crime ,but not the 2nd amendment.
Tougher gun laws won't do shit. People committing the crimes have illegal firearms and don't care what laws you put in place regarding firearm possession, as it isn't going to be worse than the crime for murder.
We should probably ban video games to stop the crime. Illinois lawmaker seeks ban of Grand Theft Auto game following rise in carjackings An Illinois state lawmaker wants to ban the sale of violent video games, including Grand Theft Auto, as carjackings have increased in the state. Rep. Marcus Evans Jr., a Democrat, has introduced a bill that would amend a preexisting law banning certain video games from being sold to minors. His amendment would ban the sale of games with subject matter including "motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present," according to the Chicago Sun Times. The amendment has yet to be voted on. There have been renewed debates around the ban after carjackings among young people have gone up recently. “The bill would prohibit the sale of some of these games that promote the activities that we’re suffering from in our communities,” Evans said, according to the Chicago Sun Times. A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with carjacking on Monday. Days ago, there were two 15-year-olds arrested and charged with carjacking as well, Fox 32 Chicago reported. A former police officer was also carjacked this past week. The young perpetrators were found, but the officer said “these guys feel like they are going to get right back out, especially since they are juveniles.” Video games being a cause for violent acts in minors is a debated topic, with some believing a ban on violent video games for children would help decrease crime while others believe that video games do not contribute to aggressive acts in children.
You would think at least the local DA would require cash bail for people arrested for committing crimes with a gun -- but in Durham they don't even do this. So I guess guns are not really an important point when it comes to crime.
