.................................................... No....you would need to own the contra currency first....then buy US securities that are priced in dollars.... ie Inbev vs BUD.... ie Inbev/BUD = 1 Euro/US$ = 1 buy when Euro/US$ = 1.6x.... ie buy when 1.6x
This article describes what happened to stock holders in Germany during their currency collapse. http://www.usagold.com/germannightmare.html The people who held on to their shares through the crisis ended up keeping most of their savings in the end. If you own 1% of a company, before a currency collapse, if the company is stable and survives the collapse, you still own 1% at the end of the crisis. Companies that are diverse and have a lot of international holdings would probably fare better through a crisis.
dated 10 April 2007 Zimbabwe http://mises.org/story/2532 "The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (the ZSE) is the best performing stock exchange in the world, the key Zimbabwe Industrials Index up some 595% since the beginning of the year and 12,000% over twelve months. This jump in share prices is far in excess of increases in consumer prices. While the country is crumbling, the Zimbabwean share speculator is keeping up much better than the typical Zimbabwean on the street."
Who gives a shit about stocks at that point? If the federal government goes tits up then a gun with sufficient ammo is worth much more than any amount of gold/silver and slightly less than food and water.
Don't worry. The U.S. givemement won't collapse. It may be repackaged in Obama's likeness in the next 3 1/2 years but it will still be with us. Won't it be nice to see Obama's picture on every wall in Amerika?
With Hyperinflation those Quarterly dividends will go up from (GE for example) 10 cents to 500 dollars. but bread will probably cost 1,500 bucks. The old farts with fixed income,CDs and cash would be fucked 10x to sunday though
What the Fed has printed thus far is peanuts compared to the enormous black hole that the end of the biggest [levered] generational spending spree in world history has left. This is a depression, the only question is how much worse is the gov't going to make it by stepping in the way.
major US stocks are currently quoted in other currencies. interesting. there was a time you would have shunted this thread to chit chat.
I am not a believer in this utter collapse scenario but if these conditions exist the only things with more value than the gun and sufficient ammo are tanks with ammo. The gun gets you food and water a lot quicker than the food and water get you the gun.
Whats more worrying is that you actually went to the trouble to start a thread on this subject - wtf? Take drugs. Relax.
